We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rishav Acharya a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rishav, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
There are so many factors, but I think being resilient is key to success.
I live by this in everything I do, whether it is my career, spiritual growth, or relationships. I always seek to grow, which has led me to success.
I don’t let the results dictate my decisions, but the effort I put in. There is joy and fulfillment in giving my all, regardless of whether I achieve exactly what I want. I will die before I give up.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Rishav Acharya, a filmmaker and an entrepreneur. I grew up with a passion for books and movies and dreamed of becoming a writer. I remember I used to write and read for hours, putting my imagination on paper, and since I had no knowledge about making films, I thought I would become a novelist.
However, in university, I got to write and direct a short movie for a competition, and we won. That opened my eyes to the possibility of filmmaking and made me realize that it’s a much more powerful medium to touch other lives. I have been pursuing it ever since. I am also interested in business and economics, which I see as a way to connect with different people and have varied experiences, enriching my writing. Being an entrepreneur allows me to choose the projects I want to work on and stay true to my artistic vision.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the opportunity to touch the lives of others and enrich them on so many levels that one cannot even comprehend. Art and creativity can inspire, heal, transform, and connect people across time, space, and culture.
Being an artist or creative also gives me the chance to bring awareness to important societal issues and challenge the status quo. I think art and creativity can be a catalyst for social change and a force for good. I hope my creations can spark conversations, raise questions, and motivate actions to improve the world.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I want to make movies that are not only entertaining but also meaningful and impactful, that can challenge the status quo and inspire action. I want to explore relevant, urgent, and complex issues because humans are an amalgamation of different things. It’s not always black and white. There are always grey areas, and I want to explore those grey areas. With my entrepreneurial ventures, I want to contribute to the world to make it a better place to live.
