We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rio Jade a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rio, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
As a kid I loved to sing, dance, and paint. Being creative was something I always leaned into and enjoyed. Even from a young age I wanted to be a singer. I went to guitar lessons I wrote music and sang in a choir but never thought it would go beyond that. In fact I ended up getting into modeling and acting which was something I came to love. I was fully committed to working full time as a model/actor. It wasn’t til COVID hit that all work was stopped and I pivoted back to music. When I released my first original song a year later it just sparked something in me. Now I can’t stop.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
If you don’t know me, Hi I’m Rio Jade. I’m a Latina singer, actor, and model based in South Florida. I got into modeling and acting when I was 18 I got to travel and work with so many brands and on different sets. I had just signed with an agency in NYC when COVID hit. All work came to a halt. I decided to stay in south FL and finish college. With no outlet to be creative I ended up getting back into painting. That led me to painting on the walls of a music studio where I ended up recording my first song. The producer actually worked with me long term and to this day I still record at that studio. Now I have new music coming out and I consistently book actor/model work on the side. I’m so grateful to be able to peruse the things I love and just enjoying the journey. If you’d like to be part of the journey you can follow me @riojadeofficial @riojademusic @riojade on all platforms.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is seeing my ideas come to life. I’m a visual person and when I’m writing or recording a song I can picture the story or the visuals. So when I see it all come together and become something real that other people can watch and listen to it just makes me feel accomplished.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I think when it comes to any craft especially something like music everyone has such different tastes and depths to them. Something I had to unlearn was judgement. There’s a quote that says “be curious, not judgmental” and that’s really what the lesson was. I couldn’t assume that someone thought my art was bad if they gave a critique. I simply had to see or hear what they were hearing and seeing. This was also a lesson I learned while modeling and acting. Sometimes you’re perfect for the role and sometimes you’re not. That’s showbiz.
