We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rini K. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rini below.
Rini, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
I spent pretty much all of my teenage years in the music industry, so my parents were very much involved in my career and I could not have asked them to navigate that situation any better. No one in my family has ever worked in entertainment so this world was so foreign to not only me but them as well. However, what made them so extraordinary in my opinion was there support for me, as their kid, not as their “investment” like so many other parents. My parents were both so incredibly supportive of my music and all my creative endeavors. I was never pressured to pursue a more “realistic” career path and if anything they encouraged my unconventional approach to life. However, they also never expected me to stay in the entertainment business and they made it a point that if at any point I thought this career was not for me anymore, they would whole heartedly support me in this decision too. I know so many other artists around my age who felt an overwhelming pressure to “make it” from their parents because of the time and financial investment they had put into them. However I truly believe that my parents’ unconditional love and support for me as a person, and not as their potential future superstar, is the reason I am still making music today.

Rini, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve been writing songs since I was in middle school and have only grown to love the craft more and more as I’ve gotten older. I am a self proclaimed “sad girl bop” artist and love to make music that can make you cry while you dance. Songwriting is the core of what I do, so much so that I even get to write on other artists’ projects such as Haley Faye Rosenthal’s newly released “Healed (As I’ll Get)”. I’m truly so proud of my work as a songwriter because I really believe that with each song I write, I am coming to say something about my own identity or how I see the world and nothing makes me happier than to see others connect to the words I write. This storytelling side of my life has recently inspired me to also explore the world of TV and film as an actor. I recently shot my debut role in an upcoming short film and am falling more and more in love with acting everyday.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
It’s no secret that the life of an artist is usually one of struggle and instability. I understand why many people might look at us and our devotion to art as insane because of the risk and sacrifice that comes with it. However, I really believe that we as artists are born with a crazy passion for creating and storytelling and we can’t live without giving our entire selves to it completely. I feel that you have to share that passion to truly understand the desire that strings us along in our tumultuous journeys.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I don’t think I have ever experienced a feeling greater than talking to someone, especially face to face, about my art and how they connect to it and how it helps them in their own personal lives. To think that anything I have said or creatively expressed has connected and stuck with anyone is an indescribable feeling, especially when I think about it from the perspective of someone who is a fan of many other artists. To know I am making people feel the way I feel about my favorite songs and tv shows brings me almost a certain level of peace that I’m doing something right.
