We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rijah Banerjee. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rijah below.
Rijah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Growing up in a family of artists and creatives, music has always been in my life. The first time I performed on a stage was at the age of three, and I always knew that I loved to be up there. I went to a performing arts high school as a Music/Audio Technology major and I learned about the various career paths within the music industry. This is when I gained the confidence to be pursuing music as my career.
Participating in intensives where I could connect with other young songwriters and producers, such as Grammy Camp in LA, playing original music at venues in New York after they began opening up again after the pandemic, and being at Berklee have all contributed to my confidence as an artist.
Rijah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve been practicing my craft as a singer and songwriter for the past 15 years, and as a producer for the past 6 years.
I have gained experience as a performer, songwriter, vocalist, guitar player, producer, mixing engineer, video editor, and content creator.
My focus is being an artist and to encourage introspection in my audience through my lived experience with nature and society.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Music has the ability to emotionally connect people in a way that feels so special and personal. I feel honored to get to be an artist.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I believe that all people are artists/creatives at heart, but pursuing it as a career can make it a little more complex to understand aspects of it.
As an independent artist, is easy to feel like you are juggling a lot on your own, and don’t always feel stable. I think it can be both exciting and a bit nerve wracking at times.
