We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rie Daisies. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rie below.
Alright, Rie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I was lucky enough to come from a creative home that encouraged me to pursue my love for music. Both of my parents are wildly talented musicians. My dad plays guitar and writes his own tunes and my mom has an amazing voice and was amazing with creating harmonies and taught my sister and I how to blend. So for me, I always knew that I wanted to make my art through music and my home environment fostered the courage that it took to truly pursue that.

Rie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Rie Daisies and I’m a Latina, trans songwriter and producer based in Jackson, Michigan. I’ve been writing my own music for most of my life which really led me to production and more recently to the engineering side of music. When the pandemic first hit I was able to finally take some classes and really devote myself and my time fully to the tech side of my craft. My music and production style tend to fall a bit more on the avant-garde side of the spectrum, heavily leaning on classical arrangements that intertwine with gritty electronic elements, which is what I think sets me apart from other producers. I think I am the most proud of my individuality, my desire to follow my heart and my intuition and not what the rest of the pack may or may not be doing. I feel super blessed to be in deep connection with my own heart, which keeps my work grounded in love and light.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think as a society we have devalued music a bit. Streaming has made music so much more accessible which is a good thing but because of that, we don’t buy records the way we used to as a whole. I think if we want a thriving ecosystem for artists to be able to continue to afford creating high level productions we have to start buying records again and helping to fund the musicians that we love. People don’t love talking about money but it’s really expensive to make a good record. So if you really love an artist, go out and buy their albums and their merch.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I think the most rewarding aspect of being a musician is the recording process. There is something so magical about hunkering down in the studio and getting out all these ideas, really exploring each track and finding it’s path. It’s this really special feeling when you know the songs that have been going around inside your head are finally going to be audible to others. Like ‘getting something off your chest’ kind of feeling but on steroids.
