We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rico V. Baylor a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Rico V. thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
The first time that I knew I wanted to pursue an artistic path I was in elementary school playing every instrument that I could find. I began singing around the age of 6 and by the age of 8 I was writing and arranging songs.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Rico V. Baylor, I got into the music industry approximately 13 years ago as A/R Rep working with music artist. From that time I expanded upon my experience at Full Sail University in the Music Business program. In 2019, I started The Glen Bevért Group where we focus on Music, Media, & PR. The Glen Bevért Group provides music and brand marketing concepts and solutions to creatives and brand owners. In 2019 I founded Music Soul Live a music platform for independent music artist to have an opportunity to be seen in their uniqueness and heard unrestricted. The construct of Music Soul Live is a network of creatives and collective tribe of great spirits and talents coming together to be light and community for one another.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
A story of resilience in my journey is the strain that the Pandemic placed on my brand in our sophomore year. I have often heard the sophomore year or project is always the test. I am a witness to attest that the statement is true.
Music Soul Live went live in the last quarter of 2019 and by the summer of 2020 the pandemic was at it’s scariest.
As a new brand we made a huge debut in 2019 filling Katy Vibes Event Center to maximum capacity and for the follow up Music Soul Live Showcase literally as we were heading to the venue we find out that there was a Covid outbreak and we couldn’t do the show. That was one of the toughest set backs because it created an even greater fear if we could survive this storm because no one was really sure how to safeguard against the disease and what the future would hold.
In the 9th hour, the team and I got together and rescheduled it for a month later at a different venue to host it virtually and with God in our plans and his favor the showcase was a huge success.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Music Soul Live was built and is powered by The Glen Bevért Group. The social media audience is derived of a mix of creatives both domestic and international that are genuine lovers of music and the arts. The basis of every follower is that they in some way are supportive of and enjoy independent artist.
The advice that I often give to anyone building their social media platform is to do it organically and strategically. Their is a platform for your niche. Find your tribe!
