We were lucky to catch up with Rico Engleman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rico, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I always hope my legacy is something people talk about forever. A lot of people in my industry either know me as a model or have walked in one of my fashion shows. I hope when I am gone people will remember the chances I gave to new models and designers that have started careers , I hope everyone remembers the joy of either working with me or for me. I hope it’s good memories along with my legacy because I always try to leave an experience with whoever I’m inter-counting with.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started out as a model about 5/6 years ago , I started with a group of models within about the first year I knew that there wasn’t that many fashion shows in the Cincinnati scene, at that point I had walked about 5/6 fashion shows so I knew most of the models. The model group I was in ended up breaking up and everyone was for theirselves I went out on a limb and ended up having my own show my very 1st show. I rented out the whole 16th floor at the raddison hotel , had over 25+ models 6/7 designers it was overall a successful show. I had stop modeling for a few years just to focus on fashion shows but Covid came and stopped everything! Here we are now 3 years after Covid I’ve had 4 fashion shows consistently, and I also started back modeling while having shows and I can honestly say it’s opened up soo many doors for me , I’m booked constantly and I’m sooo grateful for everyone that’s supported me and always have been here for me I always tell people my story just for the simple fact “ you may think you can’t do it all but you can all you need is a support system “
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think what helped my reputation is being kind to everyone, you never know what someone is going through and sometimes the only thing it takes is saying kind words and being nice and also being open to work with people as far as collaborating with different brands I’ve built relationships with many over the years. I believe that’s why a lot of people in my industry gravitate towards me
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My ending mission is to make Cincinnati a Fashion city! It’s soooo much potential here and talented individuals I see what we can do so I’m just trying to help shine the light on this city because we deserve it and we work hard for our city.
