We recently connected with Ricky Wing and have shared our conversation below.
Ricky , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
Well, to begin with, I was raised in a single-parent household by my beautiful mother. What she consistently did right was instill in us the belief that we could achieve anything we set our minds to if we put in the effort. Not only was this instilled in me and my siblings, but she also led by example. My mother has had numerous business ventures, ranging from selling jewelry and clothing boutiques to event halls. Simply being around her constant motivation and dedication has had a profound impact on me, and that’s why I strive so hard.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well, for those who are new here, my name is Ricky Wing, and I’m a hairstylist to some of the most renowned stars, including Kelly Rowland, Toni Braxton, Monica, Savannah James, and many more.
My journey into the industry was quite organic. It wasn’t something I specifically pursued; I’ve always had a passion for doing hair and creativity since I was a young boy. So, I knew I wanted to just excel in that. Over the years, from me just doing what I love while continuously refining my skills and staying true to my creative identity, I think that’s what’s really caught the attention of a lot of the people I’ve worked with that have impacted my career in a monumental way .
What sets me apart is my keen eye for detail and my approach to executing styles. Additionally, I bring a good energy to every space I enter and create a safe space for my clients to let their hair down lol. I think that is very important on top of having skill but being a good person and someone people can vibe with.
What I’m most proud of is the impact I leave in the spaces. It always makes me feel good when I hear that people have recommended me for being not only talented but just the energy I bring into spaces and being a kind person. Having those qualities will get you so far !

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I want to say my consistency and dedication to what I do is what helped me build my reputation because whenever you are good at something and you are consistent, people always will notice that and want to check you out or work with you.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I honestly built my audience by just being myself and posting my work, but not only posting my work but trying to appeal to the audience that I wanted …being very specific about what I put on my page .
My advice for those who want to build a social media presence, as cliché as this sounds, would be to just be yourself and be intentional about what it is you want to put out there in the world. Don’t worry about what other people are or aren’t doing. Just show up as yourself, and you’ll never go wrong, and your audience will come naturally.
