We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ricky Versetti a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ricky , thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
When I was in high school I was invited to be a part of the senior talent show. I had never performed in front of a real crowd before and up until that point I had only showcased my musical ability at parties or in front of friends. But for the first time I was going to actually be on stage. I remember the curtains opening up the night of the show and seeing and feeling the crowds energy. After the performance people I never expected to appreciate my craft were coming up to me and congratulating me on a job well done. That was the moment I knew this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, that was the moment I made the decision to embark on this journey of music and creativity.

Ricky , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Ricky Versetti, a Latin American multi genre music artist. I predominantly creat urban music that I like to infuse with various other genres to creat a unique sound that may appeal to a wider audience. I use bilingual lyrics in most of my music and love to collaborate with artist across the musical spectrum. I’ve been mostly independent and am in full control of my business and career. Breaking into the industry was not easy and has taken a lot of networking and relationship building. The thing I feel sets me apart from most artist is my ability to effortlessly maneuver through the various genres of music that I create. Where most artist stick to one genre I tend to flow back and forth between different sounds constantly evolving different genres. The one thing I am most proud of is the fact that I’ve been able to accomplish a lot on my own accord through trial and error, wins and losses. It definitely help define my character and approach to a lot of things in the business.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The biggest reward always comes after the hardest struggle. As a creative you must understand the amount of work and energy that goes into each project we embark on. It’s never easy and things never flow smoothly. With that being said the satisfaction of completing a project and making things work on the fly and figuring things out as you go is such a beautiful feeling. When you see everything come together and knowing the audience appreciates your work is the best feeling in the world. A feeling of fulfillment and accomplishment.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I had one a contest once early in my career and the prize was an all expense paid experience at a music convention. Only catch was it was in Miami and I was responsible for getting myself there and back home. Once there everything would be taken care of. I was low on money but was determined to get there. I managed to pull some funds together and I made the trip. Everything was going great until it was time to come home that I realized I didn’t know if I had enough money to make the drive back. Half way home I ran out of mine and gas and all I had was my merchandise to sell. We stopped at a gas station and began selling CD’s and were able to make juste enough to make it back to town. One of the scariest yet most character defining moment of my career.
