Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ricky Reidling. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ricky, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I wish I would have had the opportunity to start my career earlier. Though I did take some acting/modeling classes in Atlanta, there was not a lot of opportunity in the area back when I was a kid, or at least that I saw. I have no regrets as I am truly one that believes everything happens for a reason.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Upon moving to L.A area I knew I wanting to be in the entertainment industry. I start taking scene study/acting classes, doing a ton of background work, student films and anything I could find to get experience. I once worked on a 5 minute student film for 5 days driving back and forth to L.A. at various times of day and night. I am always creating ideas, stories in my head and that’s when after working on various films/pilots that never made it off the cutting room floor that I decided to start my own entertainment company.
Having had a cable series that I wrote, produced, directed and played a lead character in for two seasons was a lot of work for me. Thankfully I had a great cast who was very supportive of what we were doing. “BoysTown” is one of my biggest accomplishments. I am still moving forward with a new T.V. pilot “Some Kind of Wonderful.” I guess being a Taurus really helps, because I am stubborn, but I have learned to have patience. Nothing happens overnight in this industry.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Seeing others bring my words to life on the screen. When I am editing and piecing all of this together, it truly is a magical moment for me.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Definitely is about how much work goes into getting a series or film made. Some people tend to judge so quickly, but if they only knew how much sweat and tears goes into what you do. Having to do multiple jobs on the film set and then jump in front of the camera and try to get in character at the last minute was insane. I think there is a lot of competition in this industry which I don’t understand. We should all be rooting for each other and your work. I definitely know what it take to pull off something of this caliber.
