Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ricky Davis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Ricky thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Our first big shift and leap of faith took place when I was completing my master’s degree. During that time, I heard the Lord tell me to “start the production company”. I knew exactly what He meant; start the “video production company” but it didn’t make sense because I was a recording artist and never wanted to be behind the camera. Nevertheless, I bought a camera and began an intense regimen to learn all things video production. We began to grow rapidly in skill and local recognition. We produced many projects providing full video production service including catered crafts services, branding content and music videos. Ultimately, in 2020, we filmed our first feature film, “Heart of the Streets”. Then abruptly our lives took another huge shift and life altering call. God spoke again and called us to move to “North Carolina, Charlotte”. This also made no sense. We had just finished our new film, we were lined up to film two more films, and on top of all that, our 2 year old daughter needed another open heart surgery. We were drained, we were weary, but we were still encouraged. We moved with faith through it all. When we arrived to Charlotte we immediately found out that the public school system in Charlotte did not pay teachers master pay salary. This was a huge hit and let down. However, it was the very reason we introduced our empanadas to the city. We didn’t plan on serving our food until we reestablished our video capabilities. Nevertheless, our empanadas were widely received and are gaining recognition daily.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What helped us build our reputation is simply our approach to life. Everything we do we try to do with love, service, and candor. One huge lesson is to always treat everyone with kindness; you never know who you are speaking with. We had just started serving our empanadas at a local gas station. We were cooking at the commissary and met a chef. We merely had conversation about business and our plans with the business. The next thing we know a huge food reviewer here in Charlotte (Cory Wilkins) who goes by Daily Special reached out to us about collaborating with content. Once we posted that content, immediately people who we would have never reached in that short of a time span were reaching out and coming to visit us. Our flavor kept them coming back but kindness to all people is what opened the door for us.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
There are many resources that have significantly impacted our entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy. The books that immediately stand out that we believe have forged a way for our company are “How to Win Friends and Influence People”, E-Myth Revisited” and the “Bible”. The lessons these books teach are life changing and fundamental daily practices. Early on it is important to have great ambition, but it is vitally important to know that nothing great can be achieved alone. “How to Win Friends and Influence People” is a great teacher how to approach our interactions with others. We believe “E-Myth” is an absolute necessity to starting any entrepreneurial journey. It teaches the steps to creating the mindset for creating systems in the business. Lastly, as devoted Christians, we are committed to positively impacting our community one interaction at a time. Which brings us right back to love, service, and candor.
