We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rickie Jones. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rickie below.
Rickie, appreciate you joining us today. Some of the most interesting parts of our journey emerge from areas where we believe something that most people in our industry do not – do you have something like that?
In this industry today, I believe most people believe you must have the “look” that gets the job done. As a singer/songwriter I feel immensely it should be more about the words and the story being told. A raw talent on and off screen when it comes to vocal abilities, lyricism, and most importantly the desire of creating to inspire and impact a cause needing attention. The narrative used to be music was created for healing and a reflection of a mood heard around the world. Now it’s a popularity contest between individuals on who’s the best.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Rickie Jones and I’ve been performing across the DFW since I was fourteen years old. I started auditioning fairly young and was groomed by many experienced professionals. I like to say I provide an escape through my music or shows I’m casted in. Offering up laughter and compassion for whomever I’m gifted to entertain. I’m most proud of the work on stage I’ve done because it’s left a mark on who I am today. In a way, I see myself as this individual who enjoys making others smile no matter what pain or circumstance I’m dealing with, I thrive to make people smile. I have released music on all streaming platforms since 2019 and recently a new album this March 2022 titled, Vulnerable. Locally I can be seen performing in stage plays and musicals.
Have you ever had to pivot?
A time when I felt I must turn away from what I love most would be during college. I’d come more into writing and felt it wasn’t inspiring to me in the way I desired it to be. I like telling stories in a way it challenges listeners to think and clasp onto a connection. I realized it’s not a bad thing to step away and listen to society. To see different walks of life whether it’s supporting someone’s journey or listening to someone’s challenges about their journey, etc. After what was nearly two years, I chose to take back to the stage and write my first album, Seventeen.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
There’s many lessons we learn daily and for me personally one I had to unlearn would be “taking time.” I feel this lesson for me is not allowing myself to be overworked without comparable rest. I’ve noticed many times, if I’m idle for to long my inspiration and desire is hard to gain back. I like to stay busy but some days it’s okay to lay back and reflect on what has been accomplished. While there’s is many more lessons I could mention, this one is still very important to me as I still sometimes feel I don’t manage myself well and will do everything.
