We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rickeya Tatum a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rickeya, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
The name of my company is called B. Tatum consulting LLC. The original name would have been Tatums incorporated LLC, but with my company being a small business, I was unable to use any language of incorporated, foundation, etc. My goal is generate a family legacy as well as generational wealth. I want to be able to provide for my family which would ultimately set them up for success and understand the sky is the limit. My company is a geriatric consulting agency. Services provided include; geriatric education, resources & tools to navigate the Healthcare and social service system. Other services include; life coach, notary public, advance directives education and form completion. Resources include; residential and facility placement, durable medical equipment resources, home supply needs, Rehabilitation placement, community referrals: meals on wheels, caregiver services, mobile physicians, etc.

Rickeya, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Rickeya Tatum is a Milwaukee Native, The cheese state. She started to see many injustices disproportionately in her community and amongst her friends growing up. When old enough, she started researching and inquiring jobs that allowed her to give back to the community.
Rickeya attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor’s of Social Work with a minor in Psychology. She went on to work at different social work jobs such as; school setting, Juvenile detention center, Rehabilitation center, Skilled nursing facility, psychiatric hospital, and hospice agencies. She also obtained her Licensed Baccalaureate of Social Work (LBSW) in 2016. Rickeya went back to school to further her education at the University of Denver. Graduated in 2021 with a Master’s of Social Work. She obtained her Licensed Master Social Work (LMSW) in 2022.
Rickeya has now ventured into entrepreneurship and opened a Consulting business where she is a Geriatric Advisor offering different services. Services: life coaching consulting, geriatric education and resources, advance directives education and form completion, mobile notary. Rickey has also started her journey to LCSW- private practice.
Rickeya’s credentials are: CDP, Field instructor, LMSW, public speaker, life coach, notary public, trauma informed care, certified neuropsychotherapy, LBSW

Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
B. Tatum consulting just opened up a shop catered to all things mental health. T- shirts, sweatshirts, journal’s, calendars, candles, totes, backpacks, digital planner for therapist and counselors and self healing journal’s.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest lesson I have to unlearn would be that, if your business failes does not mean you are a failure. it is okay if your business ideas fail, circle back around to the drawing board, execute a new plan, and move forward.
