We were lucky to catch up with Ric’key Pageot recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ric’key thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I found out in high school while deciding my major for college. I knew already I wanted to become an internationally known touring musician. Those are the exact words I told my dad when he asked what did I want to do.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I great in Montreal, Canada in a daily of musicians. So from a very young age, I was immersed in music; my dad, my two brothers and my late uncle are all professional musicians. One of my inspirations growing up was my big brother. He always strived for greatness and that rubbed off on me. He took a leap of faith by moving to NYC to work P Diddy and he did and few years later I took a leap of faith and moved to Los Angeles with my wife, Dessy Di Lauro and we’ve been here since. In result, I e been able to work with some of the biggest icons in the business including Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Cher, Earth Wind and Fire, Chaka Khan, the late Dr John, Diana Ross just to name a few. But one of my ultimate career highlights was to have to had the opportunity to recently act in a downtown Los Angeles theater play in a co-leading role for the premier of the play Ghost Waltz. I played the role of Scott Joplin which gave me the opportunity also play a lot of piano in the play. Acting was something I always wanted to do but didn’t know how it would happen but I am the type of person believes fervently in the power of attraction. The play ran for a month and now I am looking for more acting opportunities as I caught the bug!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
At the moment, what is driving me is my new vocation of highlighting the works of historical black composers on classical music. I studied classical music for about a decade before going to college and I wasn’t told anything about the existence and importance that black composers had in the development of classical. Their history and contributions where very surprised and overlooked and I feel like, since I only recently found about that history, that I feel like my mission and duty to do my part in sharing their stories and music to as many people as possible. Therefore I’ve been recording and performing their worries for the last few years and intend to do more of that.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist / creative is having the power to change lives through art. Art such as dancing, painting, music, sculpture even cooking can have a huge impact on someone’s journey. I think the most obvious illustration of that was during the pandemic. Many of us nothing but art to keep us sane from all the craziness going on the world. We al loved something that we never had before and although we were all loved in our own quarters, art helped us remain somewhat connected. I think this is the reason there has been a resurgence of the arts in our society post pandemic. People are going to live shows more than ever because we all craved that interaction and synchronicity in frequency that is so palpable at a live show.
