We were lucky to catch up with Rickelle Felton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rickelle, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think that success is relative. It doesn’t mean the same thing to everyone. Success, by definition, means, the accomplishment of an aim or person. Success for some people means getting out of bed every day and getting dressed. Others think that success is having lots of money, a nice house, cars, and material things. Success for me is to fulfill your purpose by doing something you love with the people you love and sharing that purpose along with the gifts that God has given you with the world. With that comes immense satisfaction and usually, you can channel those gifts and your purpose into a career. To be successful, I think you have to be true to yourself and focus on your goals. Be consistent and relentless with your mission. Above all, keep God first and only surround yourself with positive people.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m the CEO of a business consulting firm, Get It Done Boss. Get It Done Boss was created during the pandemic. It started out as a blog where I offered tips, resources, and information to help budding bosses reach their goals. Over time the blog grew a set of legs and took off in several directions. After receiving several calls from associates asking for help in different areas of their business I decided to turn the blog into a business. We then began to offer business consulting, and business plans and most recently we’ve added project management. In an effort to extend a more hands-on approach to providing education to our clients, I created the GIDB virtual workshops. The workshops cover a multitude of skills and business hacks that simplify some of our everyday business processes and procedures. We have also started an Instagram Live series that is an extension of our Let’s Talk About It series. Get It Done Boss, unlike most business consulting firms, offers the entrepreneur everything they need to get it done. We promote self-care, learning, networking, scaling, and optimizing your potential as an entrepreneur. I’m really proud that I’m able to connect my clients with some of the best industry professionals in various industries. One of my primary goals is to create lifelong business relationships and to help my clients do the same.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
There are a couple of things I’ve learned over the years that really matter when doing business. Always be truthful about your ability to provide a certain product or service. Never experiment with people’s expectations and money. Also, if you say you’re going to do something, do it. Show up for appointments, return calls, and reply to emails. Deliver what you say you’re going to deliver. Your good name is tied to every interaction you have with a client. Always provide excellent customer service. Nothing travels faster than a bad customer review! Your reputation and the life of your company depend on how well you serve and treat your clients. I’ve built a good reputation because I treat people very well and deliver great products and services.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
In our culture, women are expected to be superwomen. Coming up I was taught that if you want things done right, more than likely you have to do it yourself. For years I prided myself on being a one-woman show. Doing everything that it took to run every aspect of my business. I was in customer service, marketing, advertising, design, delivery, accounting, etc. It made me very organized and efficient in many areas, however, after years of carrying all that weight I begin to slowly burn out. I had to unlearn the lesson that I could handle things all on my own. Now in addition to outsourcing, I’m building a team that takes care of the time-consuming tasks so I can focus on my passion. Knowing that your strength lies in being able to train people and effectively delegate tasks makes you the real superwoman!
