We recently connected with Rick Herrera and have shared our conversation below.
Rick , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most recent project that is the most meaningful to me is my next solo show called “Vamos A Reir Un Poco (Let’s Laugh a little)”
I go on a funny and heartfelt journey reflecting on my childhood to fatherhood.
My vivid memories growing up in Brooklyn New York and colorful characters, embraces the highs and lows of my life.
I confront the fears of becoming a new father; along with the anger and abandonment of not having my father around.
I’ve been writing this show for about five years or so and it has gone through many drafts, layers and changes.
Working on this show has taught me so much as I reflected on my Journey.
Writing this show took me to a space to grow as an artist, creatively, musically and as a human being.
I embraced and learned from my past trauma by shining a light on it, taking responsibility and laughing.

Rick , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My Name is Rick “Wind” Herrera, and I am a Dominican and Puerto Rican Actor, Writer and Storyteller that recently moved to Arizona three years ago from New York City.
The one-man shows that I create are important to my artistic and personal growth as it teaches me lessons in taking responsibility and healing through laughter while revisiting the tough times.
As I connect with the audience, I speak on topics from my life that every human being can relate with.
We all have fears, insecurities, and anger.
By being honest, vulnerable and funny on stage, the audience and I go on a journey where you can learn from the show in a positive light to reflect on your own life.
I’ve always been into creativity since young and loved to make people laugh.
I started in stand up, then improv comedy, took acting classes, played the guitar, then one day it all clicked that I wanted to create a show about my life and tell it by doing the things I love on stage.
I tell my stories using different mediums that I love to do as an artist, which includes; comedy, drama, rap, poetry, playing guitar, singing and vulnerability.
This fulfills me and my career because what I share on stage has substance, it makes people laugh but also makes you think and reflect on your own life.
I don’t need to chase Hollywood, be typecast and wait around for a yes; when the only person I needed to chase was me and I can say yes to my stories to create and share on stage or online.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal this year with this show is to set up more reading workshops at different locations to get a feel of the show and how it sits with the people, as I continue to develop it.
I am looking forward to when I can perform this show for a weekend at different places when it is meant to be.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being alive to write, create and perform projects that has laughter, lessons and my truth.
Being alive to be around my wife, daughter, friends and family.
Being alive to live life.
