Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rick Harsch. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rick, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
During university years I came to understand the medical benefits, largely in terms of emotional and mental health , of reading great subversive literature. My strongest recall relates to the arrival of Celine’s Journey to End of the Night at a local bookstore.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am deeply disturbed by the latest wave of euphemisms in the arts, which I rejected here by refusing the title of a ‘creative’, choosing instead to classify myself as a medical worker. I write novels that I believe provoke thought, pleasures associated with learning, with experiencing the benefits of poetry, and the beneficial conundrum of the irreconciliation of history and modern political standards.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Honesty, generosity, and the tendency to critique idiocies that threaten wormlike to become parasitical.
