We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Richelle Gemini a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Richelle , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
All my projects have deep meaning but as a mother and creative the first song me and song are on together was so special. The song is called “Curiosity” and is on an Album called “Taste The Sky” created by the artist Uncle Jumbo. It was nominated for a Grammy this year and sharing that with my child has been magical.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I found out I was pregnant it was 2012 I had just came off tour with a well known rapper? I thought I had my life planned out until this happened. I stopped rapping immediately, I moved back home because I was living in Dallas after attending the University of North Texas, and I just stuck with Poetry Shows. When I gave birth I told myself I would return to the entertainment world once he was 3 years old. Of course I didn’t just have one, my second son was born 10 months after my first so I waited until he was 3 and my oldest was 4. In 2016 I re-emerged as an artist in the city of Houston and did it with a passion an authentic passion. From 2016 to now I have accomplished so much and plan on doing so much more!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
One of my many goals is for my fellow poets. I am creating a path for poets to make their art a solid career. I want poets to paid as well as “well paid” comedians. I believe poets should have specials on Netflix just like comedians. We are both talking. It takes someone to pioneer that and I am here for it!
