We were lucky to catch up with Richard Weiss recently and have shared our conversation below.

Richard, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?

I’ve performed in prisons , hospitals and for the troops. As someone in recovery I also bring my comedy brand to treatment centers and 12 step conventions. This part well I produced two comedy fundraisers.

Richard, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Richard Weiss was voted “Best Standup” comedian at the 2014 Coachella Valley Comedy Festival, where he returns each year to host the Standup competition and teach a comedy workshop. The funnyman can fit most any event where he can work clean or perform for mature audiences, as he does in his casino & college shows.

Have you ever had to pivot?

After my mother passed my drinking & cocaine use escalated. A few months later I had an intervention which sent me to a Riverside California rehab facility. Shortly after my first year clean & sober I took a comedy writing class in Los Angeles. A few weeks later the instructor had me close out the show at the Hollywood Improv. I was debating if I should include material about my struggles with depression. drugs and alcohol but my whole family already knew and I was doing well as the obsession to use had lifted. When I got on stage I had a great connection with the audience, from there things took off and I haven’t looked back until you made me answer this question.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

Writing a joke and sharing the laughter with a cried.
