Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Richard Taylor . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Richard , appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
“Well, right off the bat, the first project that comes to mind that has been incredibly meaningful and impactful in my life is my feature film, “Atom the Amazing Zombie Killer.” It was a project that I worked on with my friends Zack Beins, Tim Johnson, and Robert Sausaman.
The idea for the film came to us while in film school. We were all avid horror movie fans, especially for the more schlocky comedy horror films such as The Toxic Avenger, Dead Alive, and Evil Dead.
And so, we embarked on a journey that lasted four long years. We poured our hearts and souls into every aspect of the film, from writing the script to scouting locations to casting actors. It was a labor of love, but it wasn’t without its on horrors.
There were days when we felt like giving up. We faced countless obstacles, including actors quitting, locations falling through, and even the police being called on us multiple times. But we persevered, fueled by our passion and determination to see our vision through to the end.
Despite all the setbacks, we managed to pull off something truly incredible. The film premiered at a local film festival, and the response was overwhelming.
The success of the film opened up many doors for me, and my career has flourished as a result. In fact, my band Bolonium was formed right after we scored the film, and we’ve since released four full-length albums and over 30 music videos.
And to top it all off, “Atom the Amazing Zombie Killer” was ultimately distributed by Whack Movies and Troma Entertainment, which was a huge accomplishment for us.
Looking back on that experience, I realize that it was so much more than just making a movie. It was about overcoming obstacles, following our dreams, and learning to ROCK AND BOWL!
Richard , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
“Greetings, I’m Richard Taylor, a die-hard enthusiast of movies and music and resident of the mile high city of Denver, Colorado.
My band, “Bolonium,” boasts an impressive lineup featuring the melodic talents of Tim Johnson, Bonnie Finley, Logan Rainard, and myself on accordion and vocals. We’ve released a whopping 4 full-length albums, a plethora of music videos, and have wowed audiences with unforgettable live performances.
When I’m not busy making music, I’m working with my production company, “Bizjack Flemco,” alongside my esteemed partner, Zack Beins. Together, we’ve written and produced countless short and long-form videos, collaborating with some of the most crazy underground film companies like Troma Entertainment, Whacked Movies, and Acid Bath Productions.
What sets me apart, you ask? It’s simple, really – my unwavering chutzpah. While others may buckle under pressure, I keep pushing forward, unafraid to experiment with new ideas, and make new connections. The truth is, you haven’t heard the last of me, and I’m eager to see what the future holds!”
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Let me take a moment to give a huge shoutout to the book “Make your Own Damn Movie” by the legendary Lloyd Kaufman! As a filmmaker, I’ve found his books on the craft to be hilarious and informative. In fact, Lloyd was kind enough to include an essay that my partner Zack Beins and I wrote in his book, “Produce Your Own Damn Movie.”
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
There’s something truly magical about creating art and music. The process of taking an idea and turning it into a crazy reality never gets old. But for me, the true reward comes when that art has the power to inspire or help others. To know that my creations have the ability to touch someone’s life in a positive way is an incredible feeling and makes it all worth it.
