We recently connected with Richard Lynch and have shared our conversation below.
Richard, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents were entrepreneurs who owned their own very public business inside a well-trafficked mall in Paramus, New Jersey during my formative years. Their work ethic that saw them often put in 80 to 100 hours every week managing their affairs taught me the value of hard work and pursuing your dreams. My mother especially made sure that I was instilled with the belief that I could become anyone that I wanted to be. Still, I was the last child in a large family, and my upbringing was left largely to myself, siblings, a loving grandparent and my educators. So, it’s more likely where my parents actually missed the boat in terms of looking after me and guiding my path into the future that was probably more impactful on the person I am today.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I became a journalist of my own making several decades back when I began covering professional sports teams in the New York/New Jersey market. This provided valuable experience in terms of getting first-hand, insider information on how professional entertainment organizations are run – especially in terms of how they market and promote themselves. Realizing that these were also transferrable skills I then applied my editorial experience to the music industry to run a variety of online music magazines since around 1999.
It wasn’t until fifteen years later – after promoting, reviewing and interviewing hundreds of mainstream and independent artists that I decided it was time to pursue my own dreams of making music professionally at which time I began seeking producers to help me release music online and to the world.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Soon after my first few songs were released I also realized a change of scenery was needed. So, together with my wife we packed up all of our belongings and said goodbye to the East Coast and joined the still ongoing wave of migration to Nashville, Tennessee – Music City U.S.A. With this pivot we focused our editorial output to concentrate on the Nashville scene where we have continued to cover hundreds of concerts in truly historic venues while often rubbing shoulders with musical icons and true industry celebrities. One example was having the mind-blowing opportunity to meet Ringo Starr in early 2025. Another musician we have gotten to know since moving here was a former interview subject of mine – Norman Greenbaum – whose classic rock staple “Spirit in the Sky” continues to remind me of the enduring value of having one substantial, standard track in your catalog. As for me, I am still trying!
Recently, I teamed up with my producer and current interview co-host Dallas Jack to record another effort that was truly born out of recent experience. “Jersey Heart Mersey Beat” draws upon my love of both the Beatles and Bruce Springsteen and was directly inspired by my chance encounter with Richard Starkey last February at the Musicians Hall of Fame in town. This particular track is getting a lot of great feedback while touching a nerve with its timely and universal message that references many titles composed by the Liverpool and Asbury Park legends mentioned above.

Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
Nashville is a great town – so many cool and important things are always happening here. Perhaps one of the most important cultural events in recent memory was the 2019 NFL Draft when over 300,000 football fans descended on Broadway to watch the next class of legendary athletes get selected to play in the league. My local music magazine – Music City Nashville (www.MusicCityNashville.net) – was granted a media credential and we were thrilled and honored to cover the world-class event where we were treated very, very well by the National Football League who made sure that all members of the press were well-fed over the course of three glorious and memorable days in Tennessee.
As the draft unfolded, I realized my musical persona and image could use an upgrade. So, I decided to pursue a marketing plan where I would wear only the apparel (t-shirt and hat combinations) of teams and organizations who play the sport of American football at any level – from semi-pro, arena and indoor, and international outdoor leagues.
By conceiving and pursuing this slightly unusual and quirky marketing plan, I have been able to create a vast array of networking contacts through the United States and around the world. Some of the biggest fans of my music are now owners of football teams who regular share news about my activities and latest releases on their own social media pages.
So, if you have heard about my music in Jamaica, Hungary, Papua New Guinea, Albuquerque, Northern Colorado and San Jose – it’s because a team or league owner in that locale believed in me and supported me first!
