Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Richard Jagger . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Richard , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Knowledge, Perservance, Paitence, Motivation and Prayers
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Greetings I go by Richard Jagger and I am the owner and operator of Richard Jagger LLC. I sell my authentic hats (snapbacks and truckers) online. When I say authentic it is constructed from materials I pick. I hail from Edisto Island, SC, I have a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and 24 years in Law Enforcement.
Selling anything takes patience and practice! Everybody does not start HAWT and you have to be disciplined to ride the wave. Once I knew I wanted to make hats, I had to find out where I could get them. Then I worked on what I wanted on them, so I studied New Era hats (They should pay me for that). The craft of design just kept going and going! What sets me apart from others is a question I won’t know! I don’t look at others I am focused on myself. Plus I am a very Fashionable guy.
I am most proud of starting! I sat on this idea for years because of fear! It’s the start for me and once it became Lucid I was off to the races. If you buy a hat from me you will get it in two days as UPS is my shipping provider. I hate waiting on products I buy, so I made sure my Clients get their products as soon as possible. I treat my Clients like I want to be treated.
Listen the brand speaks for itself, it’s not my design on a well-known hat, it’s my own constructed out of nothing to something hat! Don’t believe me cop one and you will see!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
When I started I just knew all of my friends were going to support me, boy was I wrong? It destroyed my confidence until I realized that it was a standard. The more I studied business and reality It drove me to prove them wrong. You buy a 70 dollar Polo hat from a company you don’t know. But you won’t spend 25-40 dollars with me (that’s a true story). I have received more support from strangers. Repudiate is not in my DNA. Friends are Friends that’s why people in business knows “Friends and Business don’t mix.” Call me if you get lost!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social Media is an art and you have to see the art. Its like invisible ink, but you know its there. Social Media does have a sicence to it like specific times to post content. Stay on the latest trends like stories and reels are where its at now. Keep your page professional with your products and put product reviews on your stories and reels.
Develop a good habit of creating and posting as often but make it meaningful. Listen I did the paid-for Ads and yes it created exposure but it didn’t adequate in sales for me.
Let me give you the cheat code. In my example, I sell hats so I searched hats and of course, a lot of accounts popped up. So I analyze those accounts to see who is following and who they are following. Then I follow them and they follow me. Also, I picked one day out of the week to follow others’ content and other people started following and purchasing from me. I never followed the well-known hat companies just the everyday companies who have made it, that’s an inspiration.
