We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Richard Gillins. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Richard below.
Richard, appreciate you joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
At young age I had a lot of people around me to influence me in my craft. My dad was a DJ, cousins and uncles were DJ’s and some of my best friends were DJ’s as well. I learned this craft from all of them teaching me different skills and giving me different ideas and support throughout my journey.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Well I am DJ first and foremost, but I always had a love for digital media. I went to college to study Media Arts, from photography, to CGI, graphic design, music production and radio production. I at first wanted to be a music producer, but found a love for radio management and production. Playing music and producing radio shows have became a passion and something I love to do.
Currently I have two radio shows which one is syndicated overseas.
I also have a digital design service for business flyers, logos and marketing images. As well as, a graphic t-shirt line in which I do time to time create customs on request.
I am just an upfront blue collar worker. Being diligent and hard working sets me a part from most.
I am just proud of the respect from my peers and all the accomplishments I have made in my 20 plus years of doing what I do.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I have build my audience through consistency, not giving up and providing top quality content. I still have a lot to learn but so far consistency and just providing quality is what been the story for me. From day one I just knew that you have to be consistent and provide quality for people to gravitate to the product.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Almost losing my life in 2020. I had two stroke, pneumonia and a high blood sugar that should have killed me. I was basically paralyzed from the neck down with use of only my left arm. I had to relearn how to walk and talk and use my right hand. I was supposed to not be here. I spent three months in the hospital damn near losing everything. My home, job, mobility. It has taken me a while but I am here living proff that if you work hard and put your mind to it anything can be possible.
