Richard, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?

All the projects I’ve worked on over the years have been meaningful in their own ways. I now try to only dedicate time and energy to projects that resonate with me but also challenge me and get me out of my comfort zone. But the most meaningful project I’ve worked on is with Vokab Kompany. Being part of Vokab Kompany was my first introduction to being in a touring band and playing big stages and festivals. We’ve opened up for artists like Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, and Skrillex. I met my wife through Vokab Kompany and so many doors were opened through touring with them over the last 10 years. The brotherhood and family aspect I share with those guys is something that I cherish to this day.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I am a versatile multi-instrumentalist specializing in smooth electric guitar covers for weddings and private events. I am also proud to share my portfolio of original projects and collaborations, which include bands like Vokab Kompany, Sky Walker, AOA, Greenroom, and more.

As a native of Southern California, I began my musical journey by founding several bands in the Ventura County Rock scene of the early 2000s. Later, I moved to San Diego, where I joined the 5-time San Diego Music Award-winning hip-hop band Vokab Kompany and became a staple on the TV show Tonight in San Diego.

After spending the last 15+ years touring and playing large sold out stages and festivals, opening for iconic artists, being part of a TV show, and playing a variety of corporate events and weddings, I bring all that experience and nuance to my business as a solo instrumental musician.

My aim is to add a sophisticated touch to my client’s weddings and private events with my signature suave electric guitar sound. I make the guitar sing with a diverse repertoire spanning timeless classics to modern chart-toppers, blending Pop, R&B, Motown, Reggae, and Rock into captivating instrumental covers. My song choices are carefully crafted for each event to reflect the vibe of the clientele and their guests. I have been told my sound is the perfect ambiance elevating any intimate or upscale gathering.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

For me the most rewarding part of being an artist is connecting with people and creating something bigger than yourself. As an artist it is fulfilling to work on something that allows you to express yourself while simultaneously contribute to culture and the music landscape.

As for being a solo instrumental musician, the most rewarding part is being part of couple’s wedding day and having the honor to contribute to such an important day in their life and celebrate that with them. Same with private and corporate events, being able to provide that entertainment and engagement and meet new people is the best part of the experience.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?

One book that I really enjoyed and helped change my approach is called Show Your Work. I feel like a lot of artists and entrepreneurs fall into the trap of waiting for everything to be “perfect” before taking any action or putting themselves out there. But this book was a nice reminder that people always love a good story and want to follow along with you as you go through your journey. There is no shame in being vulnerable and showing your progress as you find your way to reach your goals and becoming the artist and person you aim to be. Don’t let perfection prevent your from taking action and showing your process.
