We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Richard A. Delgado a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Richard A., thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I became an artist at an early age and have been one ever since, inspired by watching my dad and siblings paint murals and create awesome artworks. I knew right then and there that I wanted to be an artist too. Coming from a family with a history in Mexico’s entertainment industry, I felt that it was my calling and what God wanted me to pursue in life. I attended two art colleges where I earned my degrees: a BFA in Media Arts & Animation and an MFA in Visual Development.
Additionally, I studied Method acting at Next Actor Studio in Houston, Texas. As a part-time actor, I became involved in projects such as USA Network’s “Queen of the South,” “Beyond the Red City,” “Team of Two,” as well as various shorts and independent projects.
My desire to be involved in the world of animation and filmmaking was sparked by works from Studio Ghibli, 90’s Disney animated movies, Akira, Dragon Ball, and many other classics from the 90’s and 80’s. Following this path has always been my personal goal. It’s all I’ve ever wanted to do in life: to inspire future generations just as I was inspired by those before me.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was born in Monterrey, Mexico, but raised in Houston, Texas. I currently live near Los Angeles to pursue my career as an artist.
As an artist, I’ve undertaken numerous personal projects. One standout is “The Galacticals,” a Sci-fi story I’ve been crafting and writing for decades. We’re gearing up to launch and pitch it as a big 2D animated TV series.
Over the years, I’ve collaborated with many notable clients. One highlight has been working alongside the talented Latin musician and Grammy nominee, Lupita Infante.
My work has garnered recognition as a multi-talented artist. I’ve been interviewed on radio, TV shows, and podcasts such as “Inspiration for your Soul,” “Chat and Spin Radio,” “KUHS Radio/TV Denver,” “The Way Things Are Podcast,” among others. Additionally, I’ve been featured in magazines and articles like “Magic Image Hollywood,” “Heart of Hollywood,” “High Fashion Magazine,” “Celebz Treasure: Daily News from the Vine,” “Marylou Magazine from Texas,” and many more.
I’ve participated in numerous writing competitions, winning 18 awards to date. I was honored with the Master’s Certificate of Recognition in Literature by La Preparatoria 5 UANL of Sabinas, Hidalgo in Mexico, during their 56th Anniversary of “Cultural Week” workshop, aiming to inspire future generations of Mexican writers.
I’ve published my first novel, “The Ancient Chronicles: The Newborn,” and am developing an entire series within The Ancient Chronicles universe. Since 2018, my series has gained worldwide popularity among the fiction community. Currently, I’m working on sequels, prequels, and adapting “The Newborn” into a feature script and TV series.
Receiving outstanding book reviews globally on platforms like Amazon, Lulu, and Goodreads has been incredibly rewarding. My literary works have resonated with many, earning me the reputation as “one of the finest suspense/thrillers/gothic writers of our time.”
Coming from a respected Catholic Mexican family deeply involved in arts, modeling, and music, I aim to honor my heritage within the entertainment industry.
While specializing in creating concepts in pre-production, I also find immense joy in writing and various aspects of production. My goal is to create fresh ideas with compelling stories that inspire future generations and revolutionize content.
I’m most proud of God’s daily blessings in my life, without which I wouldn’t be pursuing my passion. My commitment to my craft and faith in Jesus Christ guides me every day. Winning hearts and making a difference through my work is my ultimate reward.
Every path has its challenges, spiritually and physically. One of my toughest decisions was relocating to Los Angeles, leaving my family behind to chase my artistic dreams. It was difficult, but necessary for my career. Despite occasional work challenges, I stay focused on creating art and literary works.
Above all, keeping God FIRST in everything I do empowers me to face any obstacle with resilience, knowing He’s with me every step of the way.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is living out the purpose that God has sent me to fulfill in life. It’s about embracing freedom and expressing myself through my works in any way possible. Equally important is the opportunity to inspire and assist others who find joy in my creations, perhaps aiding them in their own creative journeys.
Being an artist holds profound significance in my life. I believe God uses me as a powerful instrument to motivate those in need, to be a beacon of light for Him, and an instrument of peace.
The greatest reward for me is witnessing others smile and receiving their compliments for my work. It’s like winning an Oscar award. Seeing people happy and inspired to improve themselves just by experiencing what I create every day fills me with gratitude toward God. It’s a feeling that I cherish immensely.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building your audience on social media requires patience. It’s about being consistent while also trying new things to keep them engaged and interested. Follow back those who follow you and engage with your followers occasionally to create a personal connection. This ensures that you retain their support and loyalty.
Additionally, timing is crucial. Don’t bombard your audience with constant posts; instead, plan your content strategy for the week. Utilize various formats like reels, short clips, or still imagery to showcase your projects without overselling yourself.
Become someone your followers trust and can interact with. The more active you are, the more attractive your network becomes. Consider participating in interviews on podcasts and in magazines to attract new followers and potential consumers to your brand or content. Present yourself in a positive and motivating manner—it truly works.
