We recently connected with Richa Tenany and have shared our conversation below.
Richa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with a fun one – what’s something you believe that most people in your industry (or in general) disagree with?
As a creator, most people say it’s important to have a specific niche to gain followers and stick to certain topics- but honestly, I think that can box people in. Sure, sticking to one niche might help you grow faster, but I’ve always loved mixing it up—whether I’m talking about food, fitness, lifestyle, or sharing city recommendations. Growing my audience has definitely been a slower journey, but I’ve noticed that my variety of content still does well and I think that’s because I’ve been into all these different things from the start!
Richa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi! I’m Richa Tenany, a software engineer by day and a creator by night. I started posting on TikTok a few years ago for fun, sharing recommendations about the city I was living in at the time (San Francisco), along with some recipes and snippets of my life. I never expected people to actually be interested in my day-to-day or what I had to say! Over the past year, I began posting more frequently as I noticed my audience growing and it’s been great being able to use TikTok as an outlet just to speak and post freely.
Now, with over 10,000 people following along, it’s amazing to know that so many are interested in what I’m doing. My goal is simply to put out content that people can relate to and, hopefully, impact their lives in a positive way! What sets me apart is that I’m just like the people watching—I’m not a full-time content creator, I’m an everyday person with a routine who loves to cook, share recommendations about where to eat and what to do, and offer little pieces of advice from time to time. I love being able to connect with others through my content!
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
CapCut!! I think as a creator, CapCut is one of the best applications in the game for editing videos. As much as I love editing on TikTok, CapCut lets you save your videos without a watermark and repurpose them for all platforms. Currently, I feel like Instagram is just my highlight reel and TikTok is where I can authentically be myself- so I haven’t repurposed a lot of my TikTok content on Instagram just yet- but that’s not to say the door is fully closed.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, one of the most rewarding parts of being a creator is knowing I’m actually helping people, or providing good recs! I love it when someone leaves a comment saying they tried one of my recipes and loved it, or when someone stops me in person and says they’ve seen my content and found it relatable. It’s amazing to be able to connect with people on that level!
