Richa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
This is kind of a funny story with some layers to it. The name of my company stems from a nickname I received from my cousin. She has always come up with weird nicknames for me, but “Reach Peach” was always my favorite and has grown to fit my personality over time. A lot of people refer to me as “peach” or some variation, so when I decided to start this company, I thought of Peach’s Corner. The ‘corner’ refers to any place in your home where a candle would go. If you notice, the logo for Peach’s Corner resembles a house. Scents are an important part of your home and it’s always nice to remember the smell of a loved one’s house, as it can invoke some heart warming and fulfilling emotions.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Peach’s Corner is approaching its two year anniversary in November, which I honestly cannot believe! I started this candle company a few months after leaving my corporate job in March of 2020, with the idea to create original scents that are strong and linger in your home. A nice candle lit after a long day can really put you and your guests into a welcoming environment. However, candles from most regular stores don’t hold their scent very well and luxury candles with great scent throws can be expensive. Peach’s Corner candles have quality scents that are affordable. After being in lockdown during 2020, many people found joy and comfort in creating a space they actually preferred living in. That’s why I chose to start this business, to add a non-visual element for people to express their personality in their homes.
As some readers may know, I am in school for interior design, a passion I have had for years. Peach’s Corner is a small step into the interior design industry, as it allows me a creative avenue to enhance a space in unique ways. I pride myself on blending unexpected fragrance oils together to produce appealing and extraordinary products. While Peach’s Corner started with three candles, we have now grown to eighteen distinctive scents and plan on expanding further to offer new products in the near future, so be sure to check us out!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source for new clients is social media. My friends, family and followers have been really supportive. From the beginning of the idea I had for the company, to the launch of the business pages on social media and the first day of sales. I feel so grateful for that organic social media growth because of them. All the posts, reposts, comments, and other engagement has really helped me gain exposure, especially when people post their personal reviews! You would be surprised to know who is watching or paying attention to you and how they can be influenced to support the business.
Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
Our candles are made to order, so the entire candle is made by me. I had to learn a few things before I started, such as how to measure the wax and fragrance oil ratio, what temperature is the best for mixing the fragrance oils into the wax, how to dissolve the oil in the wax, and when to pour the wax into the container. The list goes on, but it requires some basic chemistry that most people are not aware of when it comes to candle making. One thing that I had to experiment with was the correct way to pour the candles into the container to avoid frosting or bubbling at the top of the candle. Although these imperfections do not affect the way your candle burns, it gives the candle a clean and finished look, which is what I want my product to have.
