We were lucky to catch up with Riccy Deleon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Riccy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
OOF!!
Ok, I wasn’t the best student when I was in school. I was taught from a young age the normality of working to survive and when I graduated high school as badly as I wanted to pursue a college degree, I just couldn’t see myself affording it nor being able to work and have the mental capacity to study. On top of that stress, my heart was in my artistic direction and with no time or energy to point at it I just couldn’t figure out where I was supposed to head. I dropped out of college to work restoration (blue collar) full time and try to figure out my music career on the side. Well I did that from 19 to 22 years old, by the end I was traveling for work and doing really well for my age. While working in Northern California I was given a job opportunity that could genuinely have me set for life. But settling down there would mean giving up my passion and life that I’d set up as an artist in Los Angeles. I had to decide what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. Did I want a good job or did I want to risk it all to pursue my passion. If it’s not obvious what I chose in the end, I decided to move back to La, quit my job and go for broke to focus in on where I’m headed in my artistic career. ITS SO MUCH HARDER THAN I EXPECTED. But this love I feel when I get to create a new project, this thrill of dopamine and adrenaline I gain when a new event happens in my life that tells me I’m going where I’ve always dreamed of. It’s absolutely priceless. That kid that decided to risk it all would be proud. It’s ugly at times but that’s what makes it beautiful bro

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a songwriter, creative, and solo artist then manager on top of the rest lol
I’ve been at it for a really long time but I feel like the rose bud is finally blooming.
I have more solo music coming that expresses all the growth I’ve undergone in the past few years,
I have photoshoots/music videos I’m playing creative director for that are going to show off the amazing people around me.
And definitely more shows to come with my band Thevalleybois
I’m proud of it all and truly can’t wait to unveil what’s been going on behind the curtain. My brain just lights up everytime I finish a project cause then there’s more to do!! It makes life so beautiful, im tellin yall!! The energy and passion I put into these projects is palpable and it’s only a matter of time before I’m doing it on a worldwide scale.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I’m trynna buy my mom a crib off this mumblinshhhhhhh

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The end of every project.
Because the rewards are where you went wrong
And ooof where you went right!!!
Keep throwing combos and eventually you’re never missing
