We recently connected with Riccardo Gresino and have shared our conversation below.
Riccardo, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
Thank you so much for having me today. Yes, I’m really happy and I definitely feel that I live to do this. I always love adventures and challenges, which is the daily part of a musician’s life that works for the sake of art. After finishing high school, I was confused about what was coming next. In my first semester of university, as a geology student in North Italy, I decided to invest all of my energy and life fully in music. From that day, a beautiful journey full of hard work and uncertainties had begun. But, with patience and proper organization, now I find myself in Los Angeles living with music. Even though there are difficult times, I would never trade this life for something else.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a professional keyboard player and music director based in Los Angeles. Since I started playing with bands, I realize that I was doing my best to support original music, working closely with artists, and shaping sound for them. In my career, I have performed and recorded for artists such as Tristan Simone, AM Dandy, Rubel, Anais Drago, Gianni Coscia, Thunderpetz, Anna Margo, Simha, and many more. I also had the opportunity to be the Music Director in The Life and Music of George Michael US Tour 2021.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The reason for my everyday mission as a musician is to be able to support and create ideas, feelings, and messages in the form of music, sounds, and attitude as a reliable and consistent person. My wish is to inspire people to pursue what they want and go out of their comfort zone.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Yes, I would have loved to be exposed to jazz earlier in my life. This concept applies to my music education too. I was stuck in an academic vision of music that wasn’t putting the understanding of music first and foremost. When I finally approached jazz music, I was able to deepen my understanding of anything that I am playing. That is the first topic that I would introduce when I teach the instrument to anyone.
