We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ricardo Robles. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ricardo below.
Ricardo, appreciate you joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I have created art my whole life, but recently transitioned into being a professional artist for 3 years. In that time I had rubbed shoulders with art collectors, worked on commissioned projects and fulfilled deadlines for art galleries and museums. Normally I hear artist launch their art careers after retirement. I wish that I had the understanding and knowledge 20 years ago to enable to me make the transition into becoming a full time artist where now I could of been an established artist.

Ricardo, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello, my name is Ricardo Robles and I am an emerging artist. I have been creating art since I was in grammar school which started with comic book characters. As I progressed experimenting with different media beginning with a pencil and paper to adding color using acrylics until I began to discover oil paint. When I decided to dive into oil paintings, I began to study the old ways of paintings with my favorite method being from the Romanticism era. I tried different methods of painting but what resonated with me was that of a representational painter – in love with the old masters. I am a self taught artist and I continue to add knowledge and skillset to my craft.
Currently I offer oil paintings for sale in the areas of landscapes and wildlife. Occasionally I will create still life paintings for a contest or a show, but that is on rare occasions and when I have time. I normally have commitments through the year that will keep me busy enough to provide an accurate amount of income. I am focusing on 2024 the year where I begin to sell online with a robust marketing plan that targets audiences in the genre that I paint.
My art style is a bit different from others as I apply influences from the old masters with newer contemporary styles. I will like to start expanding my collector and fan base to a global audience.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the privilege that I have to create a piece of artwork based on my vision and composition, and experiencing someone use their hard earned money to purchase my art and hang it on their walls. To me that is a humbling and gratifying experience that I was able to influence that individual for a long time.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish there were online resources available earlier in my journey. Information now is available instantly and easily accessible on a cell phone. When I was first learning my craft, it entailed trips to the library, purchasing books and taking workshops from artists. Those are all still valuable to this day, however, the convenience that we have today I would of appreciated back when I was kid learning.
