We recently connected with Ricardo Rivers and have shared our conversation below.
Ricardo, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with inspirations and heroes. Are there any historical figures you look up to?
Historical Figure that I look up to is Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune. She was a pillar in education and change. Through many obstacles regarding financial situations and race she still succeeded regardless of her obstacles. One value that I learned was to alway persevere. No matter what issue is presented to you, you must always push through and do it with pride.
Ricardo, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
How I got into the business. I took an undergraduate course in Photography while attending Bethune Cookman University. It was the first time my interest was piqued. Several years later I received an opportunity to capture a friend’s graduation celebration. It was my first photography job. I was not pleased with the outcome of the photographs, but my friend was. Months after that, I did my first photoshoot with another friend. She posted the images on social media and that was the beginning of Ricardo Rivers Photography at the time it was called Double R Photography.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
A time when I had to pivot in my business. I use to work a very demanding job that required 12 to 16 hour days and 70 plus hours weekly. I did not have time to run a business and it became depressing. Clients became upset because I was never available. I had to undergo surgery and was out for a. month. I was adamant about not returning to work. The day I returned to work I submitted my two weeks notice. I found a career that was flexible and structured. It also afforded me the opportunity to continue my business.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
Keeping in touch with my clients is something that I am currently improving. I sporadically message past clients with deals and to check in on their approval of past work.
