We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ricardo Mompremier. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ricardo below.
Ricardo, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
The idea for FrshFaith, Make Jesus Famous started with me being ashamed of my faith.
Before I started FrshFaith, I owned and ran a street brand apparel called DesignerSouth. I’m from Miami so the brand reflected money, fun, pleasure, or plain and simple, the fast life. That brand conflicted with my faith so I did DesignerSouth to become known as an apparel brand designer and I thought it was the quickest way to making it in life.
It wasn’t until I was questioned as to who Jesus Christ was in my life and I was too ashamed to share it, my mouth wouldn’t open and budge to share the gospel…that feeling was the worst. It even says in the bible, “If anyone is ashamed of me and my message, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in his glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels.” Luke 9:26. So from that point, I made a decision to utilize my creativity to glorify God and our savior Jesus Christ in the boldest way.
I gave away all of the clothing I created for DesignerSouth, dissolved the LLC, I gave it up, and began designing FrshFaith.
FrshFaith – Make Jesus Famous is a lifestyle apparel for Christ Jesus. It isn’t just fashion, but faith & fashion. The idea is to make a bold and strong statement of one’s faith in God and our Savior with apparel whenever our mouths and actions are quiet as mine were when I was asked about Jesus.
This is FrshFaith.
Ricardo, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Let’s see, I’m a Haitian, born and raised in Miami, high schooled in a party city, (South Beach), and grew up with my 4 siblings in an island culture that mixed American and Haitian life.
I love graphic arts, in fact, it’s something that’s in my family background. I attended college at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and studied graphic design. With being a believer in Christ, I wanted to merge the word of God with my creativity to not just share and evangelize the gospel but to fashion it. I’m a bonified Apple over Windows kind of guy and utilizing programs from Abode has really helped me to fine-tune my work in any capacity. And when I say in any capacity, I also mean that I do creative work for clients through 786designs.com, I’m a graphic artist for Turning Point With Dr. David Jeremiah, and creative director for the church I attend at Open Door Family Worship Center. I like to work lol.
Above all with being busy, I’m most proud of encouraging faith in the Lord through FrshFaith. I’m proud of being a dad whose children understand the nature of the work that I do and their encouraged to do the same. I’m encouraged to be a husband whose wife honors that I love helping ppl the best way that I can or however I can. I’m grateful to encourage ppl.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
The interesting thing about FrshFaith’s social pages is that I couldn’t remain behind the scenes anymore. I can remain behind the scene in doing creative work for clients. Things are online, work in an office, etc. I’ll remain in the back. I even do the same at church, share with me where there’s a need and I’ll help take care of it, I don’t need the claps and cheers so often, because I’m focused on the team goals. And remaining behind the scenes is comfortable.
But with building the social community of FrshFaith. I realized that I had to be the face, the voice, the demonstrator; to build a community that would want to believe or even receive what FrshFaith is about. I had to be out front lol, and that was very uncomfortable at times. What drives the growth of our community is the consistency in just being real, being me, and practicing what we preach (or the purpose and mission of the brand). We’ve grown by encouraging ppl through the word of God. Great message and the effect this brand has had outside of myself.
There is a great big community of believers out there that love God and love His ppl, as His word says.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Funding the business! My church community helped fund the business. Open Door Family Worship Center, has been the core of the FrshFaith community. I didn’t need much because with a proper pre-order system in place, all of the needs were taken care of.
Advice to anyone starting a clothing brand, pre-orders are a great option for starting and growing because a majority of what you’re doing is getting your future customers to believe in what you’re starting.
