We recently connected with Ricardo Arana and have shared our conversation below.
Ricardo, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
I feel like being misunderstood and mischaracterized is kinda a thing I’m barely learning in some sense to not care about. I like when people think of me positively, but I know actions and even how people interpret you is how they do because of actions and lack of information, At the end of the day if you are tryna be better every day, little by little. It feels like J Jonah Jameson against Spider-Man in some sense.

Ricardo, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well I go by Progress, I am an artist/rapper, born in raised in the City of Angels. I also engineer if needed for other artists and help with some creative points with them as well if needed. I feel what sets me apart is me listening to people and there thoughts on there vision and or problem. I feel I’m most proud of getting better with every EP I put out. Which I feel shows my versatility,
I am a person who writes a lot about there life and there emotions, I seldom talk to people about my things and thats why music is so important for me, I try to be better everyday. Hence my name Progress,

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I would say that a mission of mine is to have people learn and grow there mind state through my music. In a way of like teaching and I feel music is my way of doing that. Though I do make more fun songs, I enjoy making people enjoy my music and listen to it for whatever reason. Also to be one of the best to ever do it.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I guess that you have to go for this as like a plan A,B, and C. I feel like I’ve lost a lot of sleep recording, but also falling asleep in the studio, being in there for so long. To have the guts to be vulnerable and to tell your story, the good and bad of it all. I would hope they learn more about me in some way, good or bad I would hope I make them understand me.
