We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ricardo Alejandro Corona a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ricardo Alejandro, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump right into the heart of things. Outsiders often think businesses or industries have much larger profit margins than they actually do – the reason is that outsiders are often unaware of the biggest challenges to profitability in various industries – what’s the biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
The fact that it has become so diverse has resulted in vast material to browse through, making it difficult to distribute efficiently. I firmly believe that in order to establish yourself it`s imperative that you have a very capable marketing team or strategy behind your project. Also, I`ve understood that investing both time and money is an important factor that will determine growth within the industry. Two important assets one must have in order to become relevant in this business are engagement through performance in venues as well as an extensive catalog for newcomers to discover.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Born in Monterrey, Mexico about 135 miles west of the US border where Mexican urban hip-hop first emerged and industry is an everyday part of life. Raised in the Rio Grande Valley, having migrated in my elementary years to Brownsville, Texas quickly had me exposed to early 90`s hip-hop. My freestyle delivery merged with my ability to compose countless pieces of written artistry academically would result in a desire to become an artist that would later be ignited with pandemic confinement. My intention is to use music as a platform to convey life experiences that serve as an inspiration for others to become a better version of themselves in these times of chaos and division. Whenever I compose I think of setting a prime example of craftmanship for others to emulate and consequently supply admirable content. Originality with a twist of fictitious story-telling portraying what life is in the Mexican Caribbean and paying homage to the everlasting Mayan Empire is present in my quest to reach even the most remote location in the world. I am most proud of the person I have become because of this embarkment which is far from concluding and will require countless efforts fueled by persistence.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I initially contacted a local producer to inquire about rates to record in his studio to which he provided in an exorbitant manner. I accepted and attempted to book a session but he kept stonewalling until I desisted, please note this occurred during pandemic, unemployed with scarce amounts of money. I resorted to searching through social media, came across and eventually met with a mexican regional music producer. After a paid-in-full session of recording, the final product had a rather bitter taste since the producer`s navigation was somewhat out of place. In the end I was referred over to my current and only producer and we`ve put together two projects that make me very proud ever since.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I do have two particular goals which are to produce my own music at some point as well as continue composing to be able to produce new artists. My newborn which will turn 10 months in two days as well as my whole family are my current motivation in this endeavor.
