Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Riane Roberts. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Riane thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Any thoughts around creating more inclusive workplaces?
When it comes to inclusivity, I am very passionate! I want to always challenge myself to grow and learn. I believe it is so important to continue to be progressive in this area. One of the main ways I have tried to make a more inclusive space is when it comes to the terminology I use when working with clients. I’ve revised the marketing materials I use, my contracts, and become more aware of how I phrase things. In the wedding industry, it is easy to think of everything as ‘bride and groom’. But I find this terminology (as well as others like bridal party, etc) to not be as inclusive as it should be. Not all couples fall into that category and it is important to include the LGBTQIA+ couples! While I know there is still a lot of ways I can work to be even more inclusive of all groups, removing ‘bride and groom’ and other non-inclusive terms from my marketing, contracts and phrasing has been a way that I was intentional in making my business more inclusive.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a wedding photographer who loves celebrating unique love stories. After photographing hundreds of weddings, it still stays exciting and new because each wedding is so individual to the couple. Capturing the beautiful details they chose to create their big day, the posed portraits of the couples and their loved ones, the candid and authentic moments throughout the day are just some of the reasons I love doing what I do! I work very hands on with the clients throughout their planning process to give advice, help plan the timeline of their wedding to make sure they have the best experience and the best photos!
If you have multiple revenue streams in your business, would you mind opening up about what those streams are and how they fit together?
Yes! While I specialize in photographing weddings, I also teach other photographers. I have a few online course to help photographers on their journey. The first is my full photography course. This is a packed full of information for becoming an expert in shooting on manual mode. It is structured to start with the basics, like terminology and understanding basic settings. Then each lesson builds upon the last! The course goes through the exposure triangle, lighting, editing and so much more! The course is also completely self paced and allows for students to go back and rewatch the course videos whenever they need. Another course that I have is for established photographers who aren’t looking to learn the technical side of things but are instead looking for help with posing! My posing course goes over my exact process and poses that ensure I have consistent galleries for my clients while also being able to capture authentic moments and be creative! I go through posing families, individuals, large groups and couples!

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My main source of gaining new clients is direct referrals from my past clients! Making sure that I establish strong relationships with my clients, give them an amazing experience and produce consistent, high quality images is what makes them send their friends and family my way! It is such a win-win because I get to work with amazing clients, then I get to work with their referrals and make new friends along the way!
