We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Riah Galore. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Riah below.
Riah , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I began doing music at the age of 7. My father would have me recite lyrics and memorize them constantly. We would bond over teaching me famous quotes and scriptures. Over time my family would allow the children to entertain them during holiday events. During the 90’s era of music I felt unity and that inspired me to write music in my own style reflecting that feeling. Getting positive reactions from friends and peers once I discovered my talent encouraged me to be more proactive with music .
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I began doing open mic events with local artists and networking to expand resources for music . I was discovered by local showcase hosts to be invited at more community events surpassing my lyrical skills amongst mostly male artists. I have been most proud of my appearances to perform with other known artist in the city. I have made appearances in all female cyphers. Participation in back to school events with children and giving back to my community has always made me feel great about continuing to make music. Eventually I launched GALOREGANG clothing to promote my diversity of music style . The recognition and positive feedback from the community brings me gratitude to know I’m creating unity .
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In the year of 2019 I was convicted of domestic violence . I suffered from a abusive relationship that alter my time being invested into music. During my sentence I continued to write music entertaining the women with relatable songs motivating them during hardship. After release I made goals to reconnect with close friends in the music industry such as Dj’s , producers & engineers, all leading up to better opportunities to further my career.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I began building my audience on social media by posting freestyle snippets surprising peers of my skills . Creating polls for feedback and recognition. I would advise upcoming artist to stay consistent with their talents and learn to be understanding that not everyone will like your craft and that’s ok.
