We recently connected with Ri Marquis and have shared our conversation below.
Ri, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I have been writing poetry since about the age of 13. In high school i had a few friends that were interested in pursuing music but at the time, I was dedicated to playing football. I would still freestyle with these friends at the lunch table or after school but only for fun. After graduating from the University of Maryland and my football career coming to an end, I needed to find a new passion. I was reintroduced to music but this time it was in an actual studio and i fell in love with the creative process. Since then I have joined a music group, made albums and singles and also started drawing some artwork for covers.
Ri, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into music because of my brother. We would always freestyle in the car when we linked up and one day he told me that i should start to take it serious. That was when i got the opportunity to go to a real studio and see how things were done and i haven’t looked back since. I make music with a group called Fairy Tale Ent. and I’ve done personalized drawings for some clients as well. Whether it’s drawing a tattoo or drawing them as an anime character, im not afraid to push myself and test my limits until i get a result both me and the customer are satisfied with. If people purchase art from me they are going to get an art piece that i put time and effort into to make sure it’s to their liking rather than just rushing it for money. Art and creating are my passion and i try to let that show not only in my art but in my music as well. When fans hear/see Ri Marquis, they are getting passion!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My main goal with art/music is to let people know that they aren’t alone. Music got me through a lot of dark times and I want my music to be able to have the same impact on other people around the world.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
The best thing society can do is just share the artwork. If you like it, share it. It’s free, doesn’t take too much time and it’s able to get artwork or music in front of other people who may not have come across it otherwise.
