We recently connected with Rhonda Hollaway and have shared our conversation below.
Rhonda, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission is very important to me as it has to do with children in the entertainment industry by providing them with resources and guidance. My daughter is a model, actress, influencer, dancer, competitive gymnast and more. When we started pursuing the entertainment industry, we were completely lost. Not knowing where to start, what direction to go in or who to contact. We started participating in fashion shows we found through internet searches. After almost making a year through the industry, we were headed in the wrong direction. The events we attended did not benefit the youth, there were no professionals attending and everything cost money. So we had to go back to the drawing board and after more research we were able to meet some reputable companies and individuals in the industry. We created our nonprofit, Asia’s Closet Angels, to bring these reputable companies and individuals through workshops to the youth and parents who are lost just like we were.

Rhonda, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Asia’s Closet is our brand. Asia’s Closet started as an online children’s boutique in 2021. In 2022, we created Asia’s Closet Angels, our nonprofit organization. We can’t have one without the other. After Asia’s Closet was created, we started designing in fashion shows throughout the US. We began hosting workshops and events under Asia’s Closet. However we wanted to be able to help more so our nonprofit was created to host events including fashion shows, workshops, concert and more.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson that I had to unlearn several times is that I need help and I can’t do it by myself. You hear it so much from other businesses and individuals that you need a team or you can’t do it alone. Well that’s not true. I have opened my door up to accepting help and most of the time, someone is offering to help. Well that help didn’t come through. While I was waiting and depending on this individual to do their part, I moved on to other tasks. Just to come back and find out they are not dependable. I went through this not one, not two, not even three times. But I can say, that last time was the last time.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
One of my favorite books to read is Think and Grow Rich and The Science of Getting Rich. I can read them over and over again. Its all mental and once you can conquer your mind, you can conquer anything.
