We were lucky to catch up with Rhonda Donovan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rhonda, appreciate you joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I never let go of my fine art practice but discovered how making art and design were enhancing each other. This has become part of my teaching practice and finding ways to include both aspects into assignments helps students who have varied focuses in traditional and digital art. Working with clients from many different industries or helping them with a personal project leads me sometimes into new challenges so finding creative solutions to meet their needs has been one of my finest achievements. When they come back to me, time and time again, it shows me they see my value. In addition to client satisfaction, recognition from my peers is my greatest career achievement. This has come in many forms and from sometimes unexpected places but knowing that someone who lives your same daily struggles sees value in what you do is the finest compliment.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Recognizing the need for creative thinking, creative solutions, and creative elements in all industries would considerably improve the lives of artists, designers, and all creatives. Artists see possibilities and create human experiences through visual, verbal, audio, or other environmental elements. Art communicates efficiently and makes a positive impact to calm minds or inspire thought, and artists are makers and doers which is necessary for all aspects of society.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is communicating stories to celebrate what is different while finding ways of bringing those things together. We don’t have to agree but we should allow each other the space to be heard. Making art and design that supports conversation, thinking, and hearing is what I hope to achieve.
