We were lucky to catch up with Rhonda Caldwell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rhonda, thanks for joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
It’s pretty simple. I started my own company branded A Chick on The GO by Chef Rhonda. I do different personal chef jobs, catering, and so much more with this company. So, I wanted to keep Chick in the name so people knew it was the same Chef. I was partnering up with someone to open a restaurant, so that’s how the 2 came about. We both are pretty dope, so boom you got 2 Dope Chicks!
Rhonda, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Chef Rhonda, a local chef located in the Twin Cities of MN. I have been in the culinary industry over 12 years, and I have done many things in the industry. I started from working the salad station and working my way up in the kitchen. I also completed culinary school.
I started my first business in 2020- A Chick on The GO, when covid was starting to get at its peak. Restaurants was slowing down, and my job had sent us home until it slows down. Doing this down time I created my business, to be a delivery service personal chef. Making people meals and dropping them off. No need for me to be in their home when servicing them.
I did this for the next year. Then a spot opened up at Northtown mall in Blaine MN. And I wanted parts to help my business grow. However, my funds just wasn’t there and I couldn’t afford it alone. So I let the landlord know I will past due to my issue of not having enough funding.
He then introduce me to my partner. From there 2 Dope Chicks was born, and we are working on building history. I still run both businesses, and trying to turn both from small business to large businesses!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What help me grow is consistent posting on social media. Also, my food was great. So people had no issues with shopping with me.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source is word of mouth. Not everyone have a social media. Not everyone is good with looking up personal chefs, or catering companies. So being recommended by someone goes a long way.
