We recently connected with Rhonda Burgess and have shared our conversation below.
Rhonda, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
The best thing I do for my clients is to meet them where they are. I understand my clients have options and can spend their time and money with anyone they choose, and they still choose me. Many of my clients have expressed their gratitude by telling me they can tell I love what I do because they feel my sincerity and see the joy I have for helping others ascend to their next level in life. One specific client told me she feels more empowered and confident because of our sessions. She was at a point in life where she felt stuck and needed to make some changes and did not know what to do next. We had our discovery call to determine if we would be a good fit and ultimately mapped out a plan to help her get traction and move forward. That is what I love the most!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I attended the University of South Carolina and was listed on Who’s Who Among American Colleges and Universities, as well as the Dean’s List and President’s List on numerous occasions. Prior to graduating from the University of South Carolina, I was recruited by a Fortune 500 company to join their leadership team to expand the reach of marketing campaigns, implement team development programs and build partnerships with suppliers to maximize sales. I then worked in the banking, investment and insurance industries where I increased my knowledge, earned various awards and delivered outstanding service to my clients, which ultimately allowed me to segue to my passion. Right Work Consulting Group was created to help empower clients to be the best versions of themselves, as they S.M.I.L.E. (Serve, Motivate, Inform, Lift, Empower ) for themselves and others.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Yes. One definition of resilience is the ability of a person to adjust/recover from major changes or adversity, and I have made it through many. In addition to receiving invitations to Top Performer ceremonies and receiving multiple awards during my journey, there are times I have been terminated, laid off and let go. I have been in toxic workplace environments and have had relationships and friendships end. I have been disappointed and betrayed, had financial lack and lost my way at times. But through it all, God was, is and will be my source and His purpose for my life did not change. Just know, I am a student of life and I take everything as a lesson. I have heard the phrase, “Either you win or you lose”. I subscribe to the belief, “I win and I learn” and no experience is ever wasted in my life. Remember, everything serves a purpose!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The lesson I had to unlearn was thinking everyone was like me. What I mean is, everybody does not think like I think. I don’t think like everyone else thinks. I had colleagues who were friendly to me yet did not blink an eye about taking credit for my work or sabotaging it. Those were eye opening experiences because I was all about excelling individually, as well as in the capacity of team member or collaboration effort. THE LESSON: Every connection is not the right connection. We are individuals with our own objectives and agendas and we each have a purpose. In both personal and business relationships, I have learned to focus on the vision, discern if the connection is in alignment with purpose, pray for direction and listen for instruction. I exchange if I need to exchange, give if I need to give, strengthen the personal or business relationship if necessary, or place my time and energy elsewhere. LEARN TO PROPERLY DISCERN!
