We were lucky to catch up with Rhodie Lorenz recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rhodie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
I’m a business and mindset coach. My primary niche is coaching female founders.
Before coaching founders, I was one. I co-founded and ran a successful chain of fitness studios, JoyRide, for over a decade. I trained and coached instructors and I find that after instruction on form and exercises, much of the coaching I was doing as an instructor was about mindset.
We know that mind and body are deeply integrated, but we don’t treat them that way. Culturally we compartmentalize and treat them separately. I still teach fitness, but I incorporate movement as a tool for tapping into mindset and for mindset to fuel action and movement for clients in my business coaching. Our bodies are wise and carry experiences, traumas, and joys in them. Understanding our bodies and minds better as a team is valuable for reaching our goals and navigating life’s challenges.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
After teaching fitness for nearly 20 years and witnessing 100s of people be transformed by what their bodies were capable of when they stayed consistent and disciplined and when they put their mind to it. I wanted to expand my reach and explore what it means to be mentally fit as well as physically fit. And if we can build our mental fitness in the way we build our physical fitness we discover that we are far more capable than we ever imagined.
I feel honored when clients share vulnerable challenges and limiting beliefs with me. It is an honor to work with individuals in this space and support them in achieving more, finding more balance, trusting themselves, and building confidence.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I teach 7 fitness classes a week in addition to my coaching business. Last February I was skiing in France and despite being a strong skier, I had a freak accident on my way to the chairlift and broke both of my legs! I was unable to walk for 6 weeks and could slowly start weight bearing on one leg before the other. I went from a wheelchair to a kneeling scooter, walker, and then cane before I could finally walk independently.
Being knocked down was a major challenge. Being active, this was particularly challenging for me, but I drew from my work as a mindset coach to keep things in perspective, remind myself that, unlike others who experienced accidents, I would make a full recovery, and that there are always silver linings and gratitude that come with challenges and suffering. I won’t deny that this was an extremely difficult, painful, and often lonely time for me. But perspective is everything. I am back teaching, with modifications, after 3 1/2 months. You can keep a positive spirit and do what you set your mind to.

How’d you meet your business partner?
My business partner and I were introduced by a consultant that we both independently hired to open an indoor cycling studio.
I had contacted Bill Pryor 9 months before to assist me with financial forecasting. Amy, my partner, reached out to him 9 months later to consult with him on opening a studio in our home town. Amy and I had complementary skill sets, she came from a legal background and I came from a fitness background. We met and realized that we shared a vision and within a few short months we opened our first location in Westport, CT called JoyRide.
