We were lucky to catch up with Nelson & Rhiannon Negron for Provident Financial, recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rhiannon, thanks for joining us today. What’s the best advice you ever gave to a client? How did they benefit / what was the result?
We believe that the best advice we can ever give a client is to stick to the plan. Working with our clients to develop their overall financial plan is done with a long-term goal in mind. There are certain truths about investing and money and these truths are what we build plans around. Whether investing or budgeting, we can look back in time to see which actions have been beneficial over time and which have been harmful.
Albert Einstien once said, ” The most powerful force in the universe is compounding interest.” So whether it’s during a time of high inflation or a downturn in the stock market, we can look back at everything that has happened in our history and see that there are actions in investing that can be beneficial and actions that are harmful to our financial goals. Having a plan and sticking to it can pay great dividends toward one’s financial goals. It’s easy during hard times to act hastily and out of fear and emotion and having disciple to long-term outcomes doesn’t come naturally to anyone. Especially in hard times.
We feel that our greatest value is helping our clients work through these hard times and stick to their long-term financial plans.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
“It’s been my experience that many stresses and worries in life revolve around money. From waking up in the middle of the night in a panic to many marital problems can be traced back to not having a plan when it comes to money. Over my 20 years in the financial services industry, I’ve had the opportunity to work for some of the largest financial institutions in the world. During this time I realized two things. First, many people need help with developing proper financial behaviors. Second, these large institutions haven’t made it part of their business model to educate their clients on how to properly handle money.
We’re proud to say that our clients are more than just a number on a statement to us. We treat them as family and we take the time to get to know them in a deep and impactful way. We want to know what their goals and dreams are, as well as their fears and worries. These conversations help us to know how we should work with them and what is their most important and pressing concern. Not just so we can start a plan but so we can coach them all the way through.
A lot of times, this includes the things that they value the most. We want to take into account their values and beliefs when we develop a financial plan. Are there things that they believe in that they would not want to compromise for a profit? Are there values that they would not want to compromise for a dollar? Will they feel good about the investments they own and what and the way those investments impact the world?
These are all solutions that we provide to those that have trusted us to help them with their financial future. We created Provident Oak Financial out of the desire to help people where they are and lead them to where they want to go in their financial lives. God mentions money more times in the Bible than Jesus mentioned Heaven and Hell combined. We believe it’s because everyone will struggle in one way or another with money and we want to serve others in this very important area of life.” -Nelson Negron COO/Financial Advisor
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
We feel our reputation has been built around our mission statement. “Serving God by serving others.” Everything we do and every decision we make is grounded in the act of service. How can we best serve our clients’ needs? How can we improve the client experience? How will a change impact our clients? Are we making a change because it’s best for us or the people we serve? These are all questions we ask when implementing a new process or reviewing our existing business model. We take our responsibility seriously and we measure our service to the highest standard.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Our best source for the new client is our existing clients. Our existing clients are our great advocates and the referrals we receive from them are the highest compliment we could ever get. We understand that they are putting their trust and reputation on the line to send others our way and we have to do our very best to honor that trust.
Whether they are referring us on Social Media or simply passing along our contact info, we can never show just how grateful we are to have had the opportunity to provide the highest level of service to them and to those they are sending our way.
