Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rhiannon Ebert. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rhiannon, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
To me, taking risks is everything. Stepping outside of your comfort zone and letting yourself be susceptible to experiences you would never normally put yourself in can truly shape you as a person. I tell my friends often times I feel as though I’ve lived 10 different lives because I am always taking on new challenges and journeys. An example of this to me was posting social media content. It may seem like a facetious risk to be spoken of, but in our current generation, ones online presence can be calculated to portray them as someone they aren’t. I decided to take the risk and be authentically me online and that risk paid off because I’ve gained a small platform of followers, and hope to grow more. I’ve been offered small partnerships with brands and also gained alot of creative inspiration from people I’ve met on these online platforms. You can implement the idea of not being afraid to take risks into any part of your life, and watch the opportunities that blossom from it.
Rhiannon, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Rhiannon Ebert and I am a 22 year old digital creator and student from Saint Paul, Minnesota. Online I specialize digital mixed media, graphic design, and also have a small social media presence from posting fashion, lifestyle and comedic content. Offline, I enjoy writing poetry and analog mixed media collaging. Im working on getting my marketing degree as well as completing a digital marketing course to develop a deeper understanding of what draws in online audiences. My mother and I also lead a girl scout troop of first year Juniors and I feel so blessed to be apart of their lives and look forward to growing with them and continuing to be a role model. Outside of this all I enjoy spending time with my friends, travel, and expressing myself creatively. I’ve always had a passion for the arts since I was a child and I continue to look for ways to develop this hobby into something deeper. I’m most proud of my mixed media collaging because its something that over the past year I’ve really took a delve into. I also think I’m a deeply emotional person who tries to portray that through my writing. I think my writing is relatable to those in all different stages of life because I’m so openly authentic and touch on many different subjects such as addiction, mental health, love, friendship and so on. I hope to publish work some day, as well as sell prints of my collaging and also be open for personal commissions.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is having a vision in your head and being able to translate it perfectly to your craft. Of course the feeling you get when others validate your work is an amazing experience, but being able to validate yourself is even better. When you are an artist creating work, it may be frustrating when you don’t generate as many sales/views/followers. I think the most important thing to remember is where you came from and why you started creating, just to do something you love.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I believe the best thing society can do to support artists, is to show support locally! Wether that be attending shows, buying prints or commissions, or just a simple follow or shout out to a local artist on social media can make someones day.
