We recently connected with Rhianna Basore and have shared our conversation below.
Rhianna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Leaving my professional creative career behind, my only full time employment ever, was a giant leap into the unknown! I had worked since before I left for college in bursts, like you do, but consistently. Suddenly, I found myself turning down gigs and wanting to learn more about how to run a business and how in the world did you keep money in your bank account at the end of the month. So I started consulting for nonprofits, doing what I did best, helping them with their outreach and brand storytelling, which eventually lead to getting a certificate in development & fundraising and marketing. They trained me in accounting and project management. Suddenly I was my own little one person business. I was listening to podcasts I had never heard of previously and wondered what stock to pick next for my retirement portfolio. Now who was I? It was only when my creatives friends would lament about the hustle and grind of landing their next gig that I realized not only were those days long gone for me but I had things to share.
I started money coaching with my creative colleagues to create a sense of spending and basis of budgeting that would keep them cash flush and feeling confident so they could book those next big jobs. The more I worked with them, I realized it wasn’t money that was their problem, it was their mindset! From there, the rest is history. I created MONEY Monsters, which are the voices in our head that tell us we don’t deserve the money we desire and shared them through writing, speaking, and coaching opportunities. To my surprise, it wasn’t just creatives that have MONEY Monsters. Shadow Creatives who always wanted to take a chance on their creative vision and natural leadership to build their dream business have them too! As my consulting work grew into managing online business and supporting heart-based healers to charge their true worth, I again realized I could solve even bigger problems and help women who are making big decisions make big moves towards their financial freedom as well. For my clients now, it’s not a problem to make the money, the real challenges comes in keeping it. I work with their mindset to create the ease and joy-filled lifestyle of their dreams. I had no idea stepping back from auditioning full time would someday position me to do work at this level. It’s truly the best!

Rhianna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a money mindset coach for female executives and business leaders who want to earn their truth worth so they can live their best life. I offer 1:1 coaching packages as well as an ongoing monthly membership Your Money Circle, a place for money positive conservations with like-minded friends. I also have my course, How to Slay Your MONEY Monsters, which helps identify, target, and slay your MONEY Monsters so you can make those big money moves. It’s a great introduction to my work and includes some of the fundamentals of my approach to guiding women to the financial freedom they deserve. I really take visionary women from the financial hamster wheel to building the kind of cash flow that frees them up to invest in what they truly love: travel, owning a home (or several!), starting that dream business, you name it!
I am most proud of all the women I have supported in my coaching business who have paid off all their debt, quit their big girl job to finally pursue their childhood dreams, and double down their talents to make their rockstar business a reality. It’s never dull supporting visionary women and I love watching them shine so bright! The sky is truly the limit and my clients live that every day.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A very clear lesson I had to unlearn is ‘You can’t make money from that.’ This fallacy clings to our culture like old fish. It doesn’t help anyone find solutions to the challenges they face and it makes many valuable and viable business DOA. It makes me so frustrated to think of all the great ideas and projects that never got created because someone told them they needed to get a real job. A real job is great AND there are plenty of real jobs that are passion-aligned and pay great. And in some of them, you get to be the boss. Cause it’s your company. I mean, how great is that?
I want to be clear, it’s not right for every client to run their business. Some of them love rocking it out in the boardroom as a SVP or Director. I love that for them! It’s the dimming your shine and diminishing your talents because someone told you that it wasn’t worth being well-paid for, it just makes me so mad! It’s not even true. We need visionary leaders, creative thinkers, and innovative problem-solvers now more than ever. If all of them end of getting the safe job, who will create the industry-changing goods, services, and experiences that we all crave? It’s just bad business, in my opinion!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
For me, writing and speaking have been the keys to my success. I grew up on stage and my family always let me speak my mind (even when they probably regretted it!). I was raised to value my intelligence and engage in thoughtful conversations with everyone. That has created a strong communication element to my business. My MONEY Monsters have always been my biggest seller in my business and they came to me on a coaching call, spontaneously and fully formed. I know if I am connected to my center and speaking from my heart what I share will resonate with the right people. And often those people will sign up for my newsletter or ask to start coaching with me. I think because it comes so fully from the way I see the world, it’s clear to my clients if I am the coach for them. Also, it’s fun to share my ideas with the world and I am always looking for the next great way to share money mindset work with a wider audience. It’s so important.
