We recently connected with Rhea Johnson and have shared our conversation below.
Rhea, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with what makes profitability in your industry a challenge – what would you say is the biggest challenge?
It would definitely be keeping Closings consistent. The higher interest rates are, the less clientele we see coming through the door to buy homes. Our base is African Americans even though we open our doors to serve all. The real estate industry is heavily segregated. From time to time we see other demographics as sellers at closing, but not as the referral source. The racial divide in the real estate industry impacts professionals like us. We are limited to serving the professionals that choose to work with us. As African Americans we’ve been conditioned to do business with everyone regardless of race. Unfortunately that trend has not balanced in the other direction. We are super thankful to our base of agents and clientele but look forward to a day where we can see growth on all fronts.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are a husband and wife legal team. Our practice areas include estate planning, probate law, real estate closings and small business consulting. Our firm has been in operation for 15 years. We built the foundation of our firm on communication. We believe that customer communication is essential to the premium service experience that we offer. We offer two convenient locations to meet clients, Fayetteville and Midtown Atlanta.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
We started our real estate practice working with other firms and companies to provide closing services. That was our strongest source of income for a long time. In time that source began to wane and growth possibilities were very limited. We buckled down to explore creative way to market our brand and grow the business independently. Growing the business has certainly been a marathon and not a sprint, but we have been fortunate and stayed committed to evolving with technology and the needs of the client.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Great service and communication has been our biggest asset. We try to maintain continuity with each transaction and celebrate all wins with each customer. Social media marketing is helpful for branding. Above all, we are always looking at ways we can improve our services. This is something I would advise all business owners to do.
