We were lucky to catch up with Rhace Wylee recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rhace, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
My first dollar earned as a creative, at the time of this writing, hasn’t made it’s way into my possession yet. I’ve been investing in myself since 7th grade, I saved up for 3 years to buy my first MacBook. That was the first time I went broke for this. I worked almost full time outside of high school since I got my license until I moved out, about 3 years’ time, and went broke again using that money to survive and thrive in Phoenix. That was the 2nd time I went broke in pursuit of being a creative. The third time now will earn me my first dollars made as a creative, though. I went broke again to book a set in my home town of Fort Wayne, Indiana, after one of the promoters that I know reached out to me. It wasn’t like it was that expensive, but money’s been tight since I moved to Atlanta and been at the studio 5 days a week. I’ll be making a percentage of tickets sold through my link and some more residuals. I’m getting there slowly. figuring out ways to attract listeners online for streams and whatnot. Sometimes it just takes longer for some people than others, but I’m sure I’ll start earning money as a creative this year.

Rhace, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a musical artist, audio engineer, and songwriter currently based in Atlanta, Georgia but I am originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana. I moved to Atlanta from Phoenix this past August in pursuit of the music career I’ve always desired. I currently work at Tree Sound Studios up here in Norcross, a northern suburb of Atlanta. I’ve been writing songs since I was 8, and recording myself performing my songs since I was 14. I have a degree in Master Recording from the Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences in Phoenix, Arizona. Music is my purpose, whether it’s behind the mic, behind the computer, or doing both at the same time. I’ve been mixing my own music as long as I’ve been recording myself as well.
I’m really running a business though; I have a website set up for myself which I do engineering services through and promote my music on too. My web address is rhacewylee.com!
Be on the lookout for plenty of new music and content from me, you can find me on Instagram/YouTube/TikTok/SoundCloud and all streaming platforms @Rhacewylee & on Twitter @M0R3THAN3V3R.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
From the start, music’s always been therapy for me at the end of the day. It’s the healthiest and most fulfilling emotional outlet I’ve found for myself. I really started trying to write better when I was younger with the goal of making music another human being could relate to and find comfort in. Something that resonates with the soul and makes a person feel like they’re seen and heard, but most importantly not alone.
I go to music when I’m alone and I know I’m not alone in doing that. So the mission driving my creative journey would be to help people out honestly.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Something non-creatives may struggle to understand about my journey as a creative is that there’s literally no off switch. It’s a double edged sword to be real, there’s been countless days and nights I wished I didn’t have this in me, you know? But it’s all I can do, it’s all I want to do, it’s the only thing I feel like I really know how to do. At this point, my decision has been made to go for it. I chose that when I chose to get a degree in audio engineering and now I’m pushing this until the day I’m gone. Whether I have to work more jobs to make ends meet, do things I don’t want to, I’m willing to make sacrifices for this. Truthfully the sacrifices I’ve made up to this point are what keeps me going a lot with it. I can’t let them be for nothing.
