We recently connected with Rex Enriquez and have shared our conversation below.
Rex, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
My whole life I’ve been told to work harder than everyone else. This mindset that I was taught since being a little mijo (young boy) has only rewarded me more responsibilities and work throughout my life. I felt that there had to be more than working hard but I never saw it around me. I had never seen anyone live and work for their purpose. I knew since I was an adolescent that I loved helping people. It is my purpose and fulfills my heart. Up until just a few years ago I was good with coaching people through their troubles and helping them achieve their success. It seemed that the only person I never really was good at coaching was myself. I was in a toxic relationship, my finances were a mess, and my health was declining. I had reached rock bottom when I suffered a massive heart attack. I had to take control of my life for the first time. So I decided to make a huge change and that was going to take a huge RISK on me.
Like I mentioned, I was great coaching everyone but myself but that was going to change. I was going to have to coach myself through a divorce, moving back to Texas, the loss of a friend, physical improvements, and coaching in a new location on my own.
My life has changed ever since taking a risk on myself and started working on my relationship with ME. I now trust myself to make good decisions for me now and for my future. It all starts with you. Once we master ourselves we can do anything.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a 7th Generation Texas born and raised military combat veteran. I spent my early years serving the US Air Force as an Intelligence Operator. I learned how to work effectively in very diverse teams across many different geographic regions. I learned how to lead, train, and work with the best this country has to produce to include: Navy Seals, Army Rangers, AF Special Ops, CIA, FBI, and foreign military operators ensuring terrorism was eradicated.
After serving my country, I retired and began to give my talents to non-profit organizations in Florida as a way to serve and give back to my community. I served as an Educator, Instructor, and Coach helping people find their purpose, and skills that would make them marketable in the workforce.
I specialize in performance coaching. When you hear the title “Coach” most people think High School coach or some sort of sports coach. Coaching is a collaborative, client-centered process aimed at enhancing personal and professional growth. As a performance coach, I provide support, guidance, and influence to help identify goals, develop attainable plans, and navigate challenges. What sets me apart from other coaches is that I help clients connect with and master themselves. Where other coaches feel they need to back off, I push harder. We don’t grow unless we are challenged and I have proven to be successful with my methods.
I am most proud of being able to help such a diverse range of people in need. I have ranged from assisting multi-million dollar business owners improve their nonprofit organizations through performance coaching and I’ve helped people who’ve lost everything find their purpose and start successful businesses. Each and every one of us has the answers and the ability to do anything we want. My job is to help you focus on what it is you really want and how to get there and to support and challenge you along the way.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Making good decisions for myself and others. People have the ability to see who people are when they choose to. They may choose to look the other way from time to time because it might not affect them directly. But when you are charged with the success for someone else they will decide what’s best for them and I am a direct reflection of my decisions. I say what I do and I do what I say. I wouldn’t tell you that you need to make good and healthy choices if I am not taking care of myself. Which is why I walk the path. I don’t smoke, drink, or treat people disrespectfully. I consistently work out physically, spiritually and mentally. I am constantly challenging myself and seeking adventure and support when needed because that’s what you need to do to be a great coach. Not just do as I say but do as I do. I love my life and who I am and I know what you need to do to get yourself there.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
I love this question because I constantly teach this to younger generations. If I could go back I would absolutely choose this profession/industry. I would only do it much earlier because then I would be so much better at it now. We spend so much time wasted on not making decisions early on which has a direct impact on us later. Once we become masters at a a trade or profession we get paid for our expertise. The more you know the more you can earn.
