We recently connected with Rev Robert Leak III and have shared our conversation below.
Rev Robert, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Is there a heartwarming story from your career that you look back on?
at the age of 5 years old, my late grandfather, Robert Leak Sr. trained me into community work by canvassing and talking to my neighbors in regards to issues that were affecting us as a community. it was my grandfather who helped architech my purpose in doing community work. from that experience, I was able to become president of the neighborhood association at the age of 16 years old.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
in 2021, in the middle of the pandemic, an idea came across my mind to begin my own consulting firm by training non profit boards, organizations, and churches in regards to board development, fundraising, community organizing and technical assistance. the name of my consulting firm is Sunshine Consulting Services which was named after my mother who transitioned in 2003. Sunshine was her nickname. What sets me apart from all other consulting services is the approach I take to discover everyone’s gifts, skills, and talents. this approach is sometimes undiscovered by individuals who have not discovered their talents. I also provide strategic planning and development planning for organizations to create a vision of where they are going.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
what has been most helpful is the motto, “never be afraid to take chances.” and “always be open to learn something new.”
Any advice for managing a team?
always listen to your staff and try to find their gift, skill, and talent that can be useful in your business. also develop teambuilding activities and outings and celebrations with staff. this will show staff that you care and you celebrate the small and big wins.
