Reuel-Azriel, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with Robere Chretien when I was in college. Attending Wheaton College in Norton, MA. It started out as just me jotting down some parts of my adventures for an English class essay. Needless to say that my business is called “Chretien” or Robere Chretien.
Robere Chretien Couture is a subsidiary brand under ExDef, specializing in high-end couture fashion. It represents the pinnacle of luxury and craftsmanship, offering bespoke designs and exquisite garments tailored to individual clients’ preferences.
Robere’ Chrétien Couturier, commonly known as Robere Chrétien or shortened to CH, is a French fashion house and luxury goods company founded in Bordeaux, France.
Robere-Chretien, commonly known as Chretien, is a luxury goods company. …only in fantasy is the company said to be still managed by the Coutures. The owner of the brand calls the story “a story of adventure, youth and rebellion, honor of family, love vs. respect, devotion, and the representation of the color of life”.
Chrétien mission is to create an image and a life style that differentiates the individual from the crowd. Moreover, we create a possible reality, from fictional ideals which customers want, but one in which they can identify and recognize themselves with. To ultimate make ones fantasies and dreams come true. Chrétien evolved out of the adventurous destinations of its founder.
The genesis of Colour Couture by Robere Chretien is a tale deeply rooted in the life and experiences of its fictional founder, Robert R. Couture. Raised amidst the pressures of familial expectations, Robert’s journey began as a young rebel yearning to break free from the confines of convention. His transformative odyssey across Europe, filled with vibrant encounters and profound insights, laid the foundation for his eventual venture into the world of hospitality and fashion.
It was during his travels that Robert stumbled upon the concept of hostels, inspired by his own desire for affordable yet socially diverse accommodations reminiscent of his boarding school days. Recognizing the potential to revolutionize the way people travel and interact, Robert’s vision for budget-friendly lodging took shape, marking the dawn of a new era in hospitality.
Yet, it was not until a fateful encounter in Rome that Robert’s purpose truly crystallized. A chance meeting with a French/Italian woman illuminated the essence of life itself, urging him to embrace the kaleidoscope of colors that define existence. Inspired by this profound revelation and driven by his enduring love for Chretienne, Robert forged ahead to establish Colour Couture by Robere-Chretien.
Initially rooted in the collection of rare gemstones and custom fabrics, Colour Couture underwent a metamorphosis under Robert’s guidance. Transitioning into a renowned fashion retail store, the brand flourished, drawing inspiration from Robert’s global travels and the vibrant tapestry of cultures he encountered along the way.
Each design bore the imprint of Robert’s journey, arriving in packages adorned with the name Robere-Chretien, a homage to his enduring love and muse. Emblazoned with the Italian phrase “Excappare definitio!” – a testament to the liberating power of transcending definitions – Colour Couture emerged as a beacon of creativity and freedom in the world of fashion.
In the heart of Robert’s story lies the essence of Colour Couture – a celebration of individuality, creativity, and the boundless spirit of adventure. From its humble beginnings as a rebellious dream to its evolution into a global fashion phenomenon, Colour Couture stands as a testament to the transformative power of embracing life’s vibrant palette and daring to defy convention.
The decision to embark on the journey of creating Chrétien stemmed from a deep understanding of the human psyche and the power of storytelling. I recognized that people crave narratives that resonate with their own experiences, fantasies, and aspirations. Through Chrétien, I aimed to provide individuals with a fictional ideal that they could turn into reality – a brand that transcended mere fashion to become a living embodiment of dreams and aspirations.
Moreover, my rationale for pursuing this endeavor was fueled by a glaring void within the fashion industry. Despite the proliferation of iconic fashion houses like Chanel, Gucci, Prada, and Yves Saint Laurent, there was a noticeable absence of representation from the African diaspora at the helm of such establishments. While there may be black-owned fashion houses, none had yet reached the pinnacle of global recognition and influence enjoyed by their counterparts.
This realization served as a driving force behind Chrétien. I was determined to challenge the status quo and carve out a space for diverse voices within the fashion landscape. By infusing my brand with elements of storytelling, fantasy, and myth, I aimed to offer a unique narrative that resonated with a global audience while celebrating the richness of African heritage and culture.
In essence, my conviction in the potential success of Chrétien stemmed from a blend of strategic foresight, cultural awareness, and a deep-seated belief in the transformative power of storytelling. By addressing a glaring gap in the market and offering a fresh perspective on fashion, I was confident that Robere Chrétien would not only succeed but also leave an indelible mark on the industry.

The Attractiveness of Confidence: Timeless Advice on Charm, Attractiveness, & The Repulsive Forces.” This book explores the power of confidence and its role in attracting personal and professional success, meaningful relationships, and overall fulfillment.
